Questions about a REAL suspension from TRF...
The suspension that we all experienced yesterday got me to thinking, and I came up with some questions that I was hoping that the Mods or Steve will answer for us.
In the event that we're actually suspended from TRF, let me ask the following questions: 1. Is there a warning prior to an actual suspension? 2. Will we receive an email after the suspension explaining the reason for it? 3. How long does a suspension usually last? 4. Can we plead our case? 5. And as a last resort, can we throw ourselves on the mercy of the Mods or Admin? Thanks. |

For one thing, if it was a real suspension, the forum software would be telling you that access is denied. If the page you're getting (like the one yesterday) looks nothing like the forum software, then it's probably not you who is suspended.
Also, if I were the owner of the forum, I'd be giving the hosting a whole bunch of crap about posting an "account suspended" on a page which usually has a forum. For that matter, I'd probably be switching my hosting provider for pulling such a stunt, even if it was related to a DOS or whatever. It's unacceptable. |

If you do not, so you'll know why and how long it will last. Don't try to find the borderline, sometimes you don't see it. Just behave and you will stay out of trouble.

Well yesterday that was the forum defence mechanism coming into force as explained in link.http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=151344
But for anyone to get suspended from the forum, one they must have done something wrong.Infractions can be given on a points system from 2 to 10 and they can last days, weeks, or months, that up to the moderator who gave the infraction, and the moderators decision is final. Now if you incur a total of 12 points then that a automatic ban and no return. But on some occastions for something realy bad you could have a instant ban but again thats up to the moderator at the time,or the mods admin will have a vote to decide on the banning. If its a ban then the ban is instant and final but just follow the very simple forum rules then infractions banning etc should not happen.

Exactly. Let me explain since I am in charge of the server that this forum runs on. I suspended TRF briefly yesterday due to MySql (the database) getting overloaded by TRF for some reason or another. The "Your account has been suspended" page is to let the site owner know his HOSTING account was suspended, not your personal TRF forum account.

I think the general consensus was that most of us were scratching our heads initially, wondering if we had somehow broke the rules. I had the same questions in my mind as Steve. In the event of a ban, would there be some notification or warning administered. I wondered if I had been banned because I bumped my FS post a couple hours short of 48. I raced from computer to computer wondering if I was banned by my IP addresses. Luckily, I found another forum, WUS, that a few members migrated to and exchanged posts.

Yes,you would be notified by a PM originating from the software with an explanation from the moderator as to why you were given the infraction and how long it will pertain to you.(That is for the points system, read Padi's post above) If you are banned, you are told why and have no rebuttal in the matter! The moderators decision is final. Any infraction or banning is not taken lightly, but at times is needed! Now as Padi said above, keep on the correct side of the rules and nothing like that should happen to anyone. We are all here with a common passion + we should enjoy the freedom to post and also respect that privilege.

Nope, didn't look at all like any of the infraction point notifications I've received.
