New sub-c LV finally! will it stay rare or is it just a temp craze?

hello all!

finally i made my decision and decided to go for the sub-c LV so was on the hunt for it and accidentally found one at my local ad, but it was reserved for one of their return clients, they called and he wouldn't pick up so they offered to sell it to me on the spot! basically i bought a rolex without knowing i was gonna do it that day! great feeling!

so i do love it a lot but i still love the GMT II-c (i was choosing btw the green sub-c and the GMT II-c after I decided to forget about the two tone models and its not about the money!) but i really felt that the green face is so unique and rare eventhough its costs 1,000 dollars more!

my question is, is the green new sub-c gonna stay rare? or is it gonna be available like the black version and like the GMT II-c? so are we talking SS daytona rare or what's the deal? is it just high demand now and limited production or what?

i read once in this forum that i shouldnt go for my first rolex it gets addictive! i wish i listened! ukhhhh

I doubt rare is the word for it--they are readily available now on secondary market. They are on allocation from Rolex to AD now so a bit harder to get-although out there as my AD has 2 of them now. So I would call them rare but just a bit harder to get than others like the new Explorer and Milgaus GV -two who also are on allocation to AD's. Congrats on a beautiful watch though! Enjoy it!!

Have to agree no modern day Rolex is rare just some are hard to source in certain parts of the world at different times.

Yep, it's not a rare model just probably a lower production line.
IMO - the 16610LV would consider to be a "rarer" model than the 116610LV.

Huge congrats! You will love it no matter what

its a completely different watch when u see it live than the pictures
its just so different, perhaps the dial relates back to the old two tone blue face submariner it keeps changing depending on the light reflection

the watch really stands out! i didnt mean rare as in there are few of it i just meant lets say someone wanted to get it like end of next year would u just walk into an AD and find it?
will it be regularly stocked like a black sub-c or a GMT II-c?

cheers

It's a great watch if you like green......

I don't think that it's on the rare list though.......But, it certainly will be fewer in numbers than the standard black models........

My ad seemed to think sales would likely be similar to the old lv, meaning about 3-4:1 black to green. Ive been to three ads here in Canada o er the last few months and each had both on display and available. ( and in Toronto last weekend there was no discrimination price wise. I could get virtually any thing they had on display for 22% off)

I've been offered one three times now by different ADs I deal with, but have passed on all of them for now. Not too sure how much I would really wear this one.

The subc LV is not a craze and is here to stay. It is a beautiful watch, one I think is destined to be a collectors item. I wish i had one but will not get rid of my GMTIIC to get it. Unfortunately, I can't afford both.

Hope you enjoy yours!

I think some sellers would like to propagate the belief that the new LV is rare so they can charge a premium over the list price.

However, I believe the market has wised up. To see this, you only have to see how prices for new but supposedly rare Rolexes have behaved over the past 7-8 years.

From the time the original LV was released in 2003, the premium for such watches has gradually been shrinking - the LV's premium lasted for a few years but eventually went for a discount. Next came the Milgauss GV which first sold for a huge premium (around 50% if I remember right) but now can also be bought at a discount.

The Milgauss' shrinking process took some time though - I think it was around 2 years before sanity prevailed, compared to maybe 4-5 years for the original LV.

In the new LV's case, the watch first hit stores in Aug/Sep and sold at a small premium. Three months later, that premium has now almost vanished. It still sells for around the MRSP or maybe a couple of hundred dollars more, but the speed with which the premium has disappeared suggests to me that with a bit of patience, the price will sooner rather than later reflect the fact that the market now knows this is not a rare - though undoubtedly popular - watch.

I don't know where you are buying those watches but I've never seen those sold around here for a premium even when just released. In fact, they are discounted when new.

Glad to hear it. I wish the same was the case in this part of the world!

In October, a friend of mine bought one in Japan from an AD for about US$1,000 over MRSP (he was too impatient) and in Singapore, they initially commanded roughly the same premium in Oct. To be honest, I don't think many were sold at such prices and so thankfully, last time I checked, the premium in Singapore was almost all gone (provided one buys from a grey dealer), although some ADs are still charging a couple of hundred over MRSP.

Looks great!
Hard to speculate on value, My opinion I think used price may fall but probably won't fall below 6500-7k used anytime soon for the green. I can see black ceramic drop to 5500- 6k range maybe

And even in a 3-4 years with a price increase or two it may cost 8500-9k for a new one so maybe the used price might not go below 7k

It always (well usually) costs more to play first...but heck, the dang thing is "money" green, so what do you expect!

The 116110 LV are not rare. They are just a preference

Nice watch, enjoy! They will be rare in 50 years, if its still original and it works.

when i wrote this thread i meant yes i do love the sub-c LV however a big part of my decision making btw it and other watches such as the GMT II-c which i love as well was simply that not a lot of people wear it and its not common that whenever you're at a coffee shop or restaurant you see someone wearing one!

so just getting your opinions on whether it will stay this way;) also of course if the demand will remain and it will still go for a good price in case i decide to trade for a full gold GMT-II in a year's time!
