Replacing a tube

I'm about to replace the tube on my 1675.
Does it need a little loctite on the thread? Any advice for waterproofness?

I use a tiny amount of loctite to seal the threads and guard against moisture. Be sure to run the correct tap through the case to clean the threads before installing the new tube.

Lonnie, thank you very much for the info.
I'm going to go find some type of putty to clean/remove the grease from inside the threads.

I haven't started yet. Here are 3 "pre-op" pics. I'm still waiting on a new tube.

The grease was probably there to seal the threads... that will work... but I prefer to use locktite or a little bit of GS hypo cement. It seals it and also keeps the tube in place so it doesnt loosen up over time.

It came off while unscrewing the crown to reset the date.

Hi Rikki, Thanks for the info. I was about to use locktite 221.
I'll post pictures when I'm done.

Where can we find such a small tap with the correct thread pattern?

Most supply houses carry them but not sure of their sales policies for non watchmakers.

You can buy at Cousin's in England, they have tube splines and taps of the right size . They say something about wholesale but actually sell to everybody .

I am not sure, you really need a tap unless you have a lot of corrosion .

I used a small brush to clean pipes and a drop of cleaning fluid used for turntable stylus and the all thing looked like new though the watch is 50 years old. A fluid for electrical contacts would do too.

If you use the wrong tap, say good bye to the case.

I'm not entirely sure but I think 221 has superceeded 271??? Loktite also do a good thread cleaner. you can also use the spray prior to applying the threadlock to allow speedier curing.
