Do Rolex ship watches with their description?
The reason I ask, is the watch I've put the deposit down on is having the dial replaced prior to me officially taking ownership of it. My fear is however, that it's no longer 'original'. Does the paperwork and records get updated to reflect the dial change?

The paperwork doesn't state the dial placed on it - on the guarantee card, all that it states is the watch's reference number, and the serial number. There's no way to tell what dial has been on the watch before

The paperwork won't reflect a description of the dial, at least not according to anything that I have purchased so far.
But anyway as long as the dial is an official Rolex part and the model (TT vs SS) your buying is offered with that type of dial there is nothing to be concerned about. Who is replacing it,and where are they getting it from? Why didn't they just order the watch with the dial you wanted?

Its my fault. I changed my mind last minute. I could order a new watch with the dial already fitted, but it won't get here in time. I need it for tomorrow!

Sounds strange, but I'm comparing this to a car! When you see one with non-original alloy wheels or paintjob for example, and you know they were supplied with a different set & colour on the paperwork!

Rolex warranty cards in the US has dial information printed on the card and paperwork from US watches does include a description or code in the model number regarding the dial, bezel, and bracelet that was on the watch originally. I do not believe that non-US cards have this information, but the older style paperwork may. If a Rolex Service Center does the change, they will reflect it in their database for the particular watch.

I've noticed on some warranty cards (maybe only in US?) it says "WHITE INDEX" or "BLACK INDEX".

You've got me thinking now. I should have ordered one already made up at the factory, rather than dismantling a new unworn watch.

I agree with you on that. Another consideration is that I would never have an 'AD' perform work on a Rolex. In my opinion, and in the experience of a fair number here on the Forum, letting an AD work on a Rolex is tantamount to giving it to a kindergartener to play with, or even throwing it into the monkey cage at the zoo.

Brand spanking new and even before its first day of use already someone's been in there?
Like JJ would say "No Way". Where is the guy who screwed up the screw head trying to remove the link? Make sure his breed does not work at the AD. |

Ive spoken to the shop. Their watchmaker is trained and authorised to carry out repairs and mods to Rolex watches and uses Rolex supplied tools to do the job.
I'm told I can order one direct from the factory but it will take around 3 to 4 weeks. Me and my damned indecisiveness! |

The Dealer would have had to give your serial number to even order another dial and so Rolex would have changed their records to reflect the change order....

Just out of curiosity, which dial did you change?

Glad you got sorted.
If the dial is MOP - or any precious stone, with/without Diamonds, i'm 99% sure it will be stated of your warranty card. I went to great lengths to find a day-date - that had the dial combination stated on the original warranty. It makes a difference to the re-sale value - in a world where there are 1000's upon thousands of aftermarket dials. |

Did not realize this, learn something new everyday. I think I need to go back and take another look at my card.

I went for the 26mm with jubilee dial & diamonds in the end. Looks great but I can't help wondering why Rolex left off the "Oyster Perpetual" off the dial? Too much detail perhaps? Still, it's not me that's got to like it!
Looks exactly like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZAYf...e_gdata_player |
