thinking about a '68 5513
Iv'e been weighing my options whether to buy new or vintage. I'm still new to vintage Rolexes. I saw a '68 5513 online from a reputable dealer, but I'm not sure how good the price is. I only have one pic, I'll have to call tomorrow and ask them for more pics and info. Right now I know from their description that is has, acrylic crystal, self winding calibre 1520 movement with sweep seconds. Original matte black dial with white luminous indexes and matching hands. Is there anything else I should find out? I don't know if this violates any forum rules, but I wanted to know if the price is fair, they're asking $5450.00 for it. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum and its great to hear that you are asking questions before making the purchase. I would ask if the watch comes with any paperwork such as original punched papers or service papers. When was the watch last serviced and does it come with any warranty? Also be clear on the return policy upfront. Based on your photo I would also ask if the case has been polished and does the watch come with its original bracelet?
Ask if the serial number is visible and make sure the serial is correct for a meters first 5513. Also see if the caseback is original to the watch. Note: The seconds hand seems to have a different color patina then the plots and hr/min hand. |

Welcome to TRF! that price seems a bit high to me, esp if doesn't come with original bracelet (as it seems from the picture).

Even for a meters first, I think thats a little bit high considering theres no bracelet. Also, you should source a nice fat font bezel insert, that would look mint. Its not a problem that the patina on the hands aged differently than the dial, but if its very different it becomes distracting.
Otherwise, lovely piece!

A bit high, I would say about 4.5 max sans bracelet.

dial has either got some serious tritium creep or had has a acouple of markers touched up ...the decay in some of the markers would to me suggest touch up is very possible...hands are off..and hr/min look to be later service replacements for sure, ..later service bezel...
not worth even close to 5450 as head only |

Personally, I'd hold out for one that has the same tritium pantina in the dial and hands that this one has in the seconds hand.

Thanks for all the info, I heard the store is pretty reputable, just wasn't sure about pricing. Has anyone bought anything from Wanna Buy A Watch before?

Not directly, but I did own a watch recently purchased from WBAW. I think they enjoy a very good reputation. I don't know their pricing policy, but I bet you could haggle with them if you really like that watch. Good luck!

I agree. The price is a tad over priced by about 10%. But stores usually seem to add that price point to cover their overhead. If you want vintage may I suggest keeping your eyes open for one on TRF. There have been some great offers here on vintage from time to time from very reputable sellers.
