I believe the 7M number puts the watch at about 1969-70.

I remember those days when ADs still sold 14K Rolex watches. 80s will be about right.

The 1980's were 18k GMT's. I believe the switch to 18k from 14k was around 1976.

Curiosuly, did the 18K scratch much more easily, and was this the reason for change?
Or was is just a cost cutting measure?

whiskyguy is correct, it's from the early '80s. The 16750 (actually this solid gold model would be a 16758) wasn't introduced until 1981 or so. It should also have a quick-set date and sapphire crystal (only the steel 16750 retained the acrylic crystal of the 1675).

Maybe it depends for which market the watch was originally made for ? Germany used mainly 14K gold for jewelry and watches up till the '80 s .

Definitely 14k in the 80's as I bought my first TT DJ and it was SS and 14kt Gold in the mid 80's.

I am guessing as stated it depends on watch and market. Again I know my early 80's Rolex was 14kt gold but that was again a DJ. Nice GMT you have there!!
