Red Submariner

Does anyone know where these watches can be obtained, are there any specialist Rolex vintage dealers in UK and US?

If you are after a Red sub do your homework very very well on the watch and seller. Reds are one of the most faked watches in the vintage Rolex, sorry cannot help on a dealer.

Check the Vintage Rolex forum here on TRF - I've seen some members post the names of reputable dealers that they've used to obtain Reds and other coveted Subs.

One of the dealers' names I've seen posted is Ralf Eichmann - he's located in Berlin, Germany - if you do a search on his name I'm sure you'll find his website (I did).

Again, not used him myself (YET), but a few of the Pledge Members here have with good results - I would suggest checking their posts and PM'ing them to get references.

Good luck!

as Padi said, do your homework. take time to learn about the different dials, font's etc....there's plenty of reference material available here in the vintage section, i spent ages reading up before i went ahead & took the plunge..

I've just bought the 1971 Red which is currently listed as "on hold". In the photos, it looks to be immaculate. It should arrive tomorrow, and I am as excited as a dog with two tails. The seller, Mike Wood, is a vintage Rolex guru.

Also check the Vintage Rolex Forum's (VRF) Marketplace. Lots pop up on there, in fact there are a few on there now. But make sure you buy the seller more than anything else as there has been a rash of scams going around.

Thanks for all your help, much valuable information, does anyone know any literature on vintage Rolexes rather than internet articles?

Andrew Shear is a great guy and great resource. He can find any vintage watch you want. The same goes for Eric Ku. As for Red Subs- there are many variations and thus major price differences. You need to do a lot of homework and research. Go to vintage section for starters and check out the first post by Mark Lerman on Red Subs- Nick aka Greekbum was good enough to put up link for us. Happy hunting!!

Forgive my ignorance but can someone quickly explain to me why there were some red Subs and SD's?

Was it just a special edition or anniversary?

Thanks,. Seth

If you can get your hands on the $600 Rolex Submariner Story book by Mondani, there are some great photos of dial variants and Red Subs. Furthermore, a ton of great photos / descriptions of every Sub imaginable.

They have one. John (the owner) is totally trustworthy & is willing to share his knowledge.
