The older you get the more "treasured" it will become. Gave an Air-King to my son when he got his masters degree. Have one son to go. That's a classic watch, enjoy it.

You better hope your grandpa never finds out that your pricing his gift .
Do you realize that there's no price you can pay for a item like that? I mean your grandpa held on to it for 20-30 yrs, and here you are trying to get pricing on it. Shame on you. Anyways , congrats. |

Congrats on both your degree and the watch. It's priceless and a great story to tell. Do you have any ideas when it was last serviced? As you already know, it's a R serial Datejust 16200. Correct me if I am wrong, the watch uses the 3135 Rolex movement and sapphire crystal. W/ a full service, the watch will look brand new again, and have many years of life to come.

First of all, congrats on graduation! (something that I never did, perhaps that`s the reason I`m still Rolexless?)
Great gift, I`m sure you will treasure it forever! Enjoy your beautiful watch and welcome to TRF!

It's worth a couple thousand, maybe more if you get it fully serviced at a Rolex Service Center.
Yep, wear it everywhere. An employer who asks, to be told, "My grandpa got this in the '80s, as a sales award. He gave it to me when he graduated", knows: you come from successful stock, and you have a good family network who loves you. Two things that don't make a resume, but mean so much. |

Thanks guys it really does mean a lot to me, and will become more special and memorable with time. Please do not misinterpret my thinking or mentality when I asked for the value/worth of the watch. It is definitely a priceless possession and one that I will hopefully be able to pass down to my future son with a hell of a story to tell. It was more or less to satisfy my curiosity.
And to my knowledge it has never been serviced because it has been in a safety deposit box for the last 20 years Btw, I am a member on a few other forums and I can definitely say that this is the most laid back and pleasant forums that I have been a part of. Pictures to come tomorrow |

That is a great gift and it will become sentimental over the years. My Grandfather wore a Timex watch that I gave to him over 20 years ago. I am not sure where it is now, but I would be fortunate to have his old watch. He liked the large numerals on it as he did not need to wear reading glasses with it. he was a millionaire many times over but was a simple man. He wore the watch to church every Sunday and I think he cheerished it because it was a gift from me. Thank you for your post. I will try to locate his old watch.

Congrats on your degree and your first Rolex...Few are privledged to receive their 1st Rolex in the manner that you received yours.
Wearing your Rolex now will not only bring pleasure to you but will make your grandfather proud. Wearing your Rolex in years to come will make you proud and will give you a feeling that no other watch will be able to reproduce....Hence, as many have said it is truly priceless.

Wow, that's a sweet gift. If I had a son I would do the same thing, but I have a daughter
who is taking her finals as I type, 3 more years at least of school payments for me

hahaha, well I have seen a few threads that would have got the person flamed completely off the forum like for instance "how much of my net worth should I spend on a rolex" type stuff. But I tend to not ask TOO many dumb questions
