Rolex DateJust reserve power?

Just bought my wife a used 2001 Rolex from a dealer that was recommended on this forum. She has now worn it for 4 days. If she takes it off at night, in the morning it has stopped running (about 6hrs). I assumed that it would keep running throughout the night. I have not contacted the dealer yet about this. I wanted to make sure that my expectations were reasonable. It was sold as a 95% watch and I expected it to run excellently.

Am I right to assume a ladies Rolex Datejust should run throughout the night if removed?

Hi and welcome to TRF.

It all depends on how much wrist action the watch has seen during the day.

The best way to evaluate the Power Reserve of that watch is pretty simple:

Give the crown around 40 turns, note date and time, then place watch aside and note when the watch has stopped. The number of hours that have elapsed since you wound it will give you the PR of the watch.

If it stops too soon, then you might have to take it back for a check up.

Good luck - JJ

Thanks JJ!

What should we expected?

I had a similar problem with an Omega Seamaster. A good cleaning fixed it.

The ladies Datejust has a 35 hour power reserve..

I suspect that you did not wind the watch fully when your wife first put it on and it has leveled out at the amount of power that her wrist action puts into it during the day..

If she is wearing it loose, like a bangle bracelet, then it may not be turning the rotor as it should as it spends most of it's time dangling.. If she does wear it snug, then she may simply not be active enough and the solution is to wind it once a week....

Well, if the watch has been recently serviced, you should be able to squeeze out at least 40 hours as the poster above just pointed out.

Newer men's sports models, have given off 47 hours or even more with the simple test I've described in my earlier post.

Well, the latest 2235 movements do claim a 42 hr reserve... I was simply giving a conservative average...
