RSC white gold polishing

Is it true that RSCs do not polish WG watches? If so why?

do not own a WG watch but my wedding ring is WG.

Have to had it polished and recoated every year due to scratches and the nickel/palladium/etc plating wearing off and the ring turning yellow.

guess maybe that is same with the case of a WG watch too. you can't just have it polished.. you got to replate the watch too. After that it would be a b*tch to re-enamel the markings on the bezel

again this is just my opinion and me no metallurgist nor RSC rep

rolex does not plate their white gold. Its a special white gold allow that does not yellow supposedly. not idea why they wouldn't do it though, could be that polishing it reduces the weight of the watch and you'll end up with less gold.

I think polishing WG makes the surface thinner.

The amount of metal removed on any gold watch if polished properly is a very very very tiny amount. And when you think of the thickness of case and bracelet same case thickness as the SS subs. You sure would have to do quite a lot of polishing to make any of the metal thin.

During a typical service WG cases and bracelets do get appropriate polishing. As said by others, no plating on Rolex WG. It is true other, lesser alloyed WG items must be handled with care because some manufacturers cover their items with Rhodium. This is to avoid the inevitable dulling that occurs when the other metals (silver, nickel, palladium) oxidize.

There really isn't any standard regarding color in WG - it can vary. Just sharing a chart I found at Wikipedia as info

Another false rumor. Of coarse they polish white Gold. Here's mine right after its RSC service.

I agree, Rolex does not coat the watches with Rhodium. And yes, they do polish them. Like Padi said, it's a miniscule amount of gold removed during a proper polish. Part of the polishing process, by the way, does not just remove gold, it also burnishes the gold. In laymens terms, it smears the gold. Any of my dentist colleagues can verify this. Not as much so with stainless steel though.

This sounds like an internet myth. I will believe it when Rolex tells it to me directly.
