Rolex Submariner Ceramic or Datejust II
Hi guys im going to be buying a rolex this week and I cant decide between the submariner (116610ln) or the datejust II with a black dial and roman numberals. Please give me any suggestions or opinions as it is much appreciated.
Cheers dave |

Hi Dave,
This is a tricky one and I have been in your possition before.. There are a couple of things to consider, With the DJII it is not going to hold its value and you will lose quite alot of money on it over time. The Sub on the other hand holds its value a little bit more. A watch is not for investment its for pleasure in my mind but its always something to think about before buying. I've posted a few pics just to help you make your decision Make sure you try both watches on at an AD and see which one you prefer Here is the DJII Rhodium Dial... Hope this helps, Dino

thanks so much for the awsome pictures. I think I am leaning a bit towards the submariner. I currently have a 36mm SS DJ that i am going to sell as soon as i purchase my new watch from the AD this week.
Anymore opinions and comments are apprecaited! |

You can't go wrong with the iconic and legendary Submariner.

I noticed you had a DJ in your details section <<< Just a word of warning, if your selling your current datejust for a newer one. Maybe you will want to sell your new one after some time too? You have got a day date in your collection right? I think that watch is simlar to the DJ in many ways. Where as the Submariner is a sports "tool" watch... Have you considered the SS GMT Master II Ceramic? It has the slight bling factor just like the DJII with the PCL's (Polished Centre Links) Also has the sports super case like the Sub... Best of both worlds right? Dino

wow that GMT is gorgeous Dingo!!!!!
I think the with the bezel and extra hand it is a little too busy for me however. I will be selling my 36mm datejust after I buy my new watch this week. My yellow gold day date however is not for sale and never will be it was my grandfathers. |

Your watches are dress watches and the DJ II would fit the bill if you want to keep in that theme. The SubC is also a great watch which would complement your collection. So its a question of, do you want another dress type watch or a tool type watch ? Tough choice.

While the DJ II is beautiful, when I tried one on I found the bezel to be a bit too blingy and the 41 mm size too large. I would go with the Sub C or as I did, the GMT IIC.

Can't really go wrong with either.
I think many people are still thinking at 41mm DJII is bigger than a 40mm Sub C or GMTIIC... Not really. The overall size of both are about the same - one has narrower bezel and the other has a "massive" bezel |

Tough choice. Both great watches. IMO the SubC is more versatile; it can be worn in any occasion.
Good luck! |

Both are great watches, but the Sub is more popular.

Either way you can't go wrong. For my first I chose the GMTIIC, but I made sure I got a DJII shortly after that. Both are great watches.

sub
If you've already got a nice DJ, get the Sub and keep the DJ. I think the Subs are classics and the DJII isn't. If you're planning to buy new Sub or DJII, I think the Sub will hold value and the DJII is a crap shoot.

IMO - "Classic" doesn't apply to both 116610LN and DJII if you want to be precise. Yes, the both of them still carries the lines of it's original design, but they are not "classics", in terms of the appearance. IMO - both will have it own place in the Rolex range. They are two totally different watches that serves different purposes. Saying a certain watch is a crap shot is quite uncalled for IMO. |

I'd go fr the Sub first before the DJ.
Good luck and enjoy your watch!
