How many of you are picking up the new 42mm Explorer?
Curious to see who's interested in this model and will be purchasing one when it becomes available? I have not seen one yet in the flesh and I feel the price point is a bit high for no glidelock(I understand it's not a diver, but still a great feature no matter what watch), and no ceramic bezel like the sub.

It should have the Easy Link.
I found this to more than do it for what I need for hot weather adjustments.

I will be getting the white when the time is right (that could mean next year or 5 years). I think it looks fantastic. I am a big fan of the Explorer II (have a black 16570).

I wanted it before the price increase twice before it has even been released now it is set to increase a third time.
Sorry it just not an 8K watch.

I'm thinking about it...
If I do, it will be the white dial. I'm debating between that and a white DJ II |

Not for me as I already have an Explorer II ( see Avatar) and it does the job well although my Sub gets the most wrist time these days.

Good point ... if I do it in 5 years as I mentioned above, it'll probably be 20k ... oh well, what are you gonna do ...

Would love to but don't have the coin for it. $8k is just too much.

Agree. It should have the Glidelock clasp. In fact Rolex should use this on all their sports watches, its just so dam useful. Its not just for wetsuits as I bet 99% of people with Sub C's are using it for adjusting to weather/temperature fluctuations on their wrists.

The black dial EXPY2 will be a cheaper alternative to a complete mint 1655 for me. Simply put I will acquire one as soon as they become available in the Americas

8k is WAY (x1000) too much. 6k and I'd bite.

i would love to own it. but i feel the same way most of you do. in canada the msrp is 8200. my local AD told me they already pre-sold one. i cant tell you if thats BS or not. maybe the owner bought one for himself.
at this price though there are a TON of options. i know Rolex is amazing at marketing and they outsell every other watch maker by far. but one has to wonder if some of these models will be pricing themselves out of the market. |

I had to have the Exp II when I saw the picture. Now, also thinking $8K may be too much. If they pop up preowned in a couple years in the $6 to 7K range, I'll reconsider.
In the end its pretty similar to my GMT II (oyster bracelet, 24 hour hand, dial, etc.). For that price I think I'd like to have something a little different with a complication or 2...maybe a JLC master calendar, chrono or reserve. |

Will also have to see it in the flesh and try it on before making a decision... Looking forward to seeing some pics right here on TRF sometime soon

Yep, waiting for devileries to AD so I can see one. Was talking to mine today, said they were taking pr-orders, but didn't know when they would come in. I am not a fan of the Sub C so I don't know if I will like it either, but I want to.

Fore sure I am going to try it out, but I can say that I find 40mm to be my maximum, so I must be really, really convinced to buy the new one...
I am looking forward to try it out. |

Maybe. I don't buy sight unseen, normally. I'm thinking white face.

not me, it's gorgeous, but 42mm is not for me, and it just doesnt look right on the bracelet IMHO. brother in law has a larger wrist, so he is going for it. Very excited to see it though.

If I do it will be the white..
I'm pretty content with the collection right now but I'll see what happens once they're readily available.

It seems like a lot of the interest has died down since Basel. I'll be buying my first Rolex as soon as I return from Iraq as a present to myself. I was pretty determined to get the Explorer II white dial until they changed it to 42mm. Now I'm going to an AD the second I get back and just see what really "sings" to me. Either way it should be a lot of fun. I too am looking forward to seeing pictures and hearing peoples opinions when they see it for themselves.
