Bond 50th on Omega website

While browsing the Omega site I noticed the Bond Special Edition is now in the Seamaster section. It's not as BAD as people say, I wouldn't buy it but it's not dreadful.

Sorry but it is.... great opportunity to release something special and they come out with that. Could you imagine Panerai, Rolex etc having something quite as tacky. I'm sure it'll sell but I don't know who too!

The watch itself is a great design, it's too bad they put "007" all over the face, they should have just done something on the case back and left it at that

It's so ugly that people on the forums actually doubted if it was real.

I agree, the dial is just crass. The caseback treatment and perhaps the red 50 are all it needed.

Looks OK to me? No different than the dial Rolex has with Rolex Rolex all over it.

Don't really know what to think about it !

Well, yes I figured it out, just a BIG lack of imagination and creativity for the designers at Omega's !

That watch popped up in my mind just when I read that comment about Rolex not being tacky!

Having said that, I'm not a fan of that Bond SMP, I don't really like the dial and find it in fact too busy. However, I do like the case back and that red 50 marker on the bezel kind of has its charm.

Still, I prefer my plain black SMP quartz.

Your right it will sell, I was looking in an Omega boutique and mentioned this watch. They told me that they had sold all the ones they had been allocated, and only had a standby list for if people choose not to buy it.

To Bond enthusiasts/collectors and, to Bond and Omega enthusiasts/collectors! BTW: Panerai and Rolex(and many other "high end" brands) have come out with some questionable commercially and/or politically influenced models! (For eg the current dedicated Panerai Boutique models, and the Rolex pictured above). I quite like it and Staff at the Sydney Boutique told me there was a lot of interest already.

Well, all big name watch manufacturers have tacky watches. Unfortunately customer demographics change over the years and in order to grow and "make more money" they will cater to whoever they can sell.
Bond watch, one has to see it in person. I agree though the dial should have had no 007.

I take your points but that Rolex is (I assume) pretty close to a one off and will only adorn the wrist of some super rich chaps good lady if not because of taste then just because of cost. The 007, whilst limited, is a much broader offering. Everyone is entitled to their own taste of course, but I think Omega have made some cracking improvements to the range in the last few years and in my humble opinion the 007 is horribly over branded.
Only my opinion so no offence of course...

The case back is pretty cool. The dial is terrible.

Saw the new Bond at the Sydney Boutique - actually looks quite smart. I think it's one of those watches you have to see in the flesh before you judge.

I just don't know what they were thinking. Not to mention, creating a Bond 50th anniversary is a litte odd for omega, since the Bond watch 50 years ago was Rolex.

I have seen this in the flesh back in January this year before it was released. I think its gorgeous. The 007 is much more subtle in the flesh. If I hadnt got my 1968 Chronostop I would be ordering one, and I'm not the biggest Bond fan
If some one wants to buy one and send it to me I would not be too upset
Also as Tonyphilly said the Rolex was the original Bond watch, but Omega has created a great brand around the 007 theme. Every time a new Bond movie comes out the sales of Omega go through the roof
