Should I buy back my 5512 Sub?
Ok I had a 16713 and a 5512 that I ended up trading for a 18038. The GMT II didnt care for, but the 4 liner I do miss. I have a chance to buy back my watch for $4500. The watch was serviced and looks great. My antique dealer's watch guy put a factory vintage bezel that was in much better shape than the one it had too. Here is the pics of the 5512 and the pres

That pic is before service, right? I say if you are asking you already know the answer. At that price for a #first serviced Sub I say YES .

If you can keep the President, then I'd consider it, but honestly, I'd look for a different 5512. I don't care for the roughness of the case and bezel and the hands look rough too.

I forgot to say that. Yes the pic was taken when I owned it right before service. The new Bez is very light fade still dark and no scratches. I must add the watch guy is a master at refinishing very soft on the edges. I saw the watch in the case and said wow.

I'm going to get criticized for saying this, but... I would relume the watch. Unless you can find hands that match the markers. The only thing I woud never do is miss matched hands and markers. Otherwise I have no problem with the way it is. Be nice if you could share some pics of it in its current state. Such a classic!

Btw, since I already confessed to the re lume idea, this watch would look perfect with a desert tan NATO. Perfect weekend watch and the Prez for daily. Lucky you!

If you are missing it now, then you will probably be missing it later. If have the means to buy it back, then do it!

I'd say if you can afford it, and you like the watch, go for it.
Seller's remorse is common when you collect and buy and sell- and I agree, sounds like you already know the answer. Get it back and enjoy it! |

there are master watch makers who can relume the hands to match the dial patina. the lume in the hands of my Snowflake suddenly fell out, to my horror. I sent the watch to Bob Ridley who relumed the hands to match the dial patina. so, yes, relume the hands. |
