I noticed that the clasp on my SMP is really heavy duty. The clasp is thick and the buckle is meaty. The divers extension link is also sturdy, who else has noticed that this is one hell of a watch.

I noticed too! It is a wonderful clasp indeed and I'm always impressed when I open it.

Both my SMP are built solid. I bought the Great White GMT in 2004 and picked up the blue, co-axial James Bond GMT version this past January.

i still prefer oyster flip lock. once it snaps in place its going no where. omega clas is heavy duty but not as comfortable

I agree, my 2254.50 has been through countless mountain biking rides, scuba diving, etc. and the watch is simply indestructible.

Omega makes a hell of a watch. They may not have the same weight with society as a Rolex, but in my opinion, an equal watch with exceptional finish. I actually prefer the omega finish to Rolex. The clasp on my old SMP 2264.50 was my favorite part of the watch.

You should have a look at Ploprof clasp, for its looks and how well it's made. That's what l call heavy duty! l have it on a mesh, on my LM PO. l personally believe with the seahorse engraved on it, it looks great, better than the Seamaster clasp.

IMO, the Omega clasp would be the best in the business if they added the micro adjustment feature as on the PloProf clasp. As it is, I really like the clasp on my PO's but since my wrist shrinks and swells during the day I would appreciate the adjustments.

I agree that Omega has become the equal to Rolex in quality, although not in "prestige" or recognition. I no longer have my Sub-C or GMT-C, but I have both the 2500 PO and 8500 PO.

People will flame me for this, but the security and feel of this clasp makes it the only watch I ever wear while boating, swimming, boogie boarding, etc.

I have never wear my sub in such a fashion just because of the lightness of the clasp. If my life was depended on a watch I would choice Omega everytime IMHO

the clasp is a piece of shit.

over the past 7 or so years with my SMP, I've broken 2 clasps. I couldn't replace the piece that broke, so I've had to buy a new clasp at the tune of about $250+ a clasp. not something a clasp on a diving watch should do.

So that's crazy - either you have really bad luck or you rappel down mountains and use your Omega instead of a carabineer...

Seriously...my Speedmaster clasp is similar in design and very sturdy...what exactly has broken on these clasps?

i have same SMP and my friend has PO, both of us have head the same problem with the omega clasp ... the spring inside the clasp wears out after extensive use and clasp snaps open with slight pressure ... 1st hand experience. With some careful DYI you can fix it up easy yourself, just need tools to remove pins. Also no micro adjustment :-(. However the whole bracelet in general if everything is in 100% working condition does feel much sturdier than oyster flip lock. In a long run i prefer oyster flip lock personally ... a bit more comfy for my wrist and micro adj.

Sort of my impression of the Rolex clasp, too. The GlideLock is without question the current superior looking/feeling/working clasp...at least from the one's I've tried on and read about.

I have wondered about the spring bars inside my Omega's clasp, but didn't think too much about it since I don't read about anyone complaining. This thread was the first I've stumbled across about having an issue with the clasp.

Guess its something to be aware of.

I used to think that way until I got a Rolex. The Rolex clasp is by far more solid and has fail safes in case one piece breaks. The Omega clasp, one piece breaks, your watch is gone. I'd much rather have the clasp on my Rolex than my SMP clasp.

No clue, but I switched out to a NATO strap so I wouldn't have to deal with breaking the clasp again.

Just received my new model 300M for my Dad...I was inspecting the clasp and they've redesigned it...doesn't look like the wire spring bars to catch the stud like on my Speedmaster. Looks more like two machined pieces inside the clasp which catch the stud.

So was it one of the bars at the end that failed? That sucks you've had trouble with them...and two of them.

I guess I could see the spring bars inside the buttons failing, but outside that, the bars holding it all together you'd think would be sufficient.
