Vintage Help..
here is my deal. I don't own any vintage pieces but I like vintage because I love maxi dials (modern or vintage), I also love plexi, lug holes chamfers.
So that is what I like, what I don't like about vintage is patina, i know i know everyone loves patina but I just love those creamy white maxis. Also I don't like that the dials don't glow any longer. Also there are some really over polished butchered cases out there . Anyway, while trolling on ebay i came across this and would be interested in the pros thoughts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Role...item19cef6400e |

The markings on the case aren't clear enough. I would ask for better clearer pictures of both ends to determine if the case markings for serial number and model number are correct. Looks almost to good to be true, which means it probably was polished which most have been or maybe the wrong case.
The insert appears to be a luminova pearl insert. If this is the case it isn't period correct. These can be purchased seperately however. Hands look almost to good to be true as well. Could be replacements also. Not certain about the movement, there again can't make out if it is the correct movement number. Appears as the dealer does deal in watches, but I didn't look hard enough to determine wether he deals in vintage rolex watches or not. He does have some negative feedback. If it where me I would want some better clearer close up pictures first. Let's see what others have to say.

he states its a replacement case, for the hardcore vintage people likely a big negative.

The auction states that the case is a replacement, so probably the hands, dial etc. are too.
It is too good to be true (unless you want a fully refurbished vintage). |

But I did notice the case being to good to believe. Either way, for me the purpose of getting a vintage watch is because of all those things that go with it. Original and vintage. So I would say absolutely not, at least in my book. Totaly defeats the purpose of going vintage in the first place. There are vintage examples with less patina than others if this is what floats your boat.

That one did pretty well. Nice looking watch even if the case is a service replacement.

444 prefix serial number is a replacement case. Was it originally a red Sub?

That's what I was thinking too John, what if it was a white sub with a red sub dial? Is there any way to tell?

Seller has been around longer than most and is well known. Considering what a dial like this goes for it went for what the current market is willing to pay. With a lumi dial would it have sold for $3500-3700?

I was looking for a red sub dial for my 1970, 1680 Submariner a while back and ended up selling the watch to a guy that had the correct dial for the watch. He was happy and I was happy.

Lovely refreshed sub date worth every penny paid for it.
