I got to play with this today!

As always, may thanks to my friends at 5 State Helicopters.
This job was at the Peterbuilt 18 wheeler plant in Denton TX.
61 lifts job. The big steel fan assemblies weighed in at a hefty 9500 lbs!
The total flight time for the job was about 2.5 hours, during which 391 gallons of Jet A was used. Yuck. That's my yearly consumption!

The helicopter is a Sikorsky S-61. The same helicopter as the one used by the President of the United States, Marine One and the military as the SeaKing. (Jolly Green Giant if Coast Guard)

OK.... I got bored copying all those links.

You can see the rest of them by clicking on the picture below.
I took 400 shots... I got 28 processed. Will work on more later.

It also has a few electrical wires running around.
And they all look alike!

That's really quite outstanding! Fantastic color and contrast! Dark blue is my favorite color, BTW, thanks for showing us the fine work!

The ones with the great blue in the sky and on the bird were taken with a circular polarizer. The ones with a more dull sky were taken without a polarizer. Huge difference, if you can spare a couple of F stops or more.

Self Winding? I have actually done that in his S-58.

The procedure is called "Auto Rotate". A while back he asked me if I knew what that was. I said No. So he said... "I'll show you". Turns out that was a big mistake on my part. I nearly pooped in my pants. Just something about going up to about 4000 feet and turning off the engines, and letting a perfectly good helicopter fall out of the sky. He landed smoothly and safely, without ever turning the engines back on.

That's OK!
It has a few buttons and gauges that control all those parts!

In between the seats

The ceiling

And some more on the ceiling...

Here are a few more pics.

A 9500 lbs whatever the heck this is... but they lifted it and placed it on the building!

And some 4500 lbs ducts that connect to the doohickie in the picture above.

Hard to get a decent shot. I arranged for the girl to get a helicopter ride and I did not want to ruin my chances by taking pictures of my watch.

The large white and blue is a Sikorsky S-61 Sea King, and the blue one in a stand alone picture is a Sikorski S-58T (T for Twin Turbine) Sea Bat. (Choctaw if Army)

Belgian search and rescue still uses them at sea but they are getting way too old (thought at least 20 years) so in the near future they will be replaced by the NH-90.
Real work horses.

Real work horses.
Sikorsky used to name their helicopters by the year they were introduced. So the S-61 came out in 1961.
The particular example in the photos was built in 1973.
