Flying thirteen year old

I finally figured out how to post pictures without the help of my kids, wife, or snot nose IT geek. I promise not to post anymore pictures this month.

Here is my thirteen year old sitting in the back of a DA40 on an IFR flight. Looks no hands flying by dad!

Here is a picture of me in the back and her flying and talking with route controllers. At the time we only had a Garmin 530 with the 430 as backup. Now we have a Garmin 1000 and for the life of me I can't figure out all of the functions. She has...as kids these days are very computer savy. Wish I had included the outside in this picture as we are in the soup. She was hand flying at the time instead of using the auto pilot. I am all for using the auto pilot, but she is still learning her scan.

The plane...the plane...

Just for fun.....I was two years away from retiring when my wife dropped this out! Had not named her till she was born and I remember uttering something like "I hope this is the last one" and the name Hope stuck. This is MY only HOPE.

My two daughters were very young when I used to fly them all over Alaska.

I thought it would be a rich experience for them and memories for the rest of their lives.

Now that they are adults I've learned that they were so small, they couldn't see out the windows or over the dash.

They don't really remember anything about all the flights they took....to them it was just another car ride somewhere...

Oh well....So much for planning our kids adventures for them

Funny you would mention that. I did the same thing, Georiga and Utah, and my two oldest only remember freezing to death flying around in an old 172. Surprised the heck out of me when my 13 year old wanted to try her hand at flying. She will have over 250 hours by the time she can solo. Alaska....maybe a 180 or such?

Never. I will be broke by then. I have always taught my kids to to tell the truth and when I showed the pictures to my dughter she had a strange look on her face. When I asked her what is up with that look she said...."dad nice pictures but I was not thirteen when that picture was taken ; I was 12 years and 50 weeks old. Also, dad if you look close at the second picture you can tell that was taken on the ground as I can see a bush through the window. Lastly dad, you included a picture of the rental plane we sometimes flew". Was going to explain to her the concept of how the pictures were still relevant to the story line, but she will learn that one on her own. Did not realize that when you set high standards for your kids that they view you with the same standards!
