I would also like to know if people sail or not and if they like it for regattas. I only ask because I do sail and may be swayed in the direction of the YMII if it is functional.

The OP is on my radar, and has been for a few days now.....
I'm a little skeptical, as he ignores all requests to post his own YMII pics. I'm happy to be corrected however~!

To answer his question, no reactions at all, and most couldn't care less in the general public..

The regatta timer is a neat feature, but not practical for sailing use, and I'd venture a guess that no-one in the sailing community uses it for it's intended target....
However, a wonderful feat of horology......Great as an egg timer though!!

Where in Red Deer would you go sailing if you don't mind me asking??

The closest place to sail here is Sylvan Lake. We are fortunate to be by a spot with a large enough body of water. Otherwise we would all have to head out to Vancouver if we wanted to go sailing.

I know Sylvan Lake.....

A very nice lake indeed, and great for a family.....
There's also some other large bodies of water further north great for sailing..... Check 'em out!

Pigeon and Gulf lakes are nice as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was told that to set the timer you need to open the crown and manipulate it on the first stop out. This would imply that in order to set the timer while in your regatta, with the sea and splash all over, you would have to compromise the water integrity of your watch.

Please correct me if I am incorrect in how the mechanism functions.

Seems to be the case. I tried out the interactive demo and it does involve pulling out the crown to the first stop to set the number of minutes, with ten being the maximum. Once set though, you just need to reset and it will go to the time you had set. If you set it up ahead of time you could just start it running at the five minute mark.
