Scratched dial on new Patek

Bought a Patek 5167 last week from my local AD. It was brand new and sealed fresh from the factory.

Over the weekend I noticed a very faint but long scratch on the dial. It's only visible from certain angles and under very strong light. It runs from near the 4/5 o'clock hour markers all the way up through the last P in PHILIPPE and finishes near the 12 o'clock marker.

I'm just wondering what I should do. Whether I should return the watch or just get used to it. I don't really want the watch to be gone away for a long time and I definatly don't want PP to polish or scratch the case or anything like that. I've had small, faint scratches on a couple of Rolex dials which never bothered me so just wondering what you guys would do in my boots please.

Here's a couple of photos. It was very difficult to photograph under a magnifying glass and I could only capture parts of the scratch.

A lot here are lucky to be able to read the time.

If I am not happy with any bought object for a good reason I simply take it back.

+1 on taking it back.

I usually get scratches on my Speedy so I use Polywatch Polish to get rid of them... I dont know what kind of crystal your PP has so hopefully someone can give more insight....

Thanks for the replies. The scratch is not on the crystal. It's on the actual dial itself. I may just take it back. It'll probably be gone away for a few weeks at least but so be it. :(

I would take it back. Get a refund or new watch. For the money it is unacceptable.

Would I be entitled to a new watch or is that up to the ad? I thought the only thing I'd be entitled to is a repair under warranty?

PP may look at it and do nothing to fix it. It could be gone for weeks and it could come back with more issues than it left with. A friend of mine had similar issues and in the end he was told by PP he was not the type of customer they were looking for! I would want it perfect for the money it cost you! I am just glad I can not see that well.

You should return the watch and firmly ask for a new one, why should you get your new watch repaired for the company's fault
Also you mentioned about the scratches ib your rolex watches are you talkibg about new ones or used

One was a new GMTc and the other was a Datejust that came back from a service with a scratch that wasn't there before I sent it.

Yes, I would contact my AD.

I'm sure they will take care of it for you.

Find out how they plan on adressing it and go from there.

that's some serious bad luck

keep us updated on the PP scratch

you must take it back and either demand a new one or your money back

i can imagine you've lost faith in the PP brand

Well I just took it back to the ad and they'll be sending it back to Patek straight away so I should hopefully hear back from them in the next few days. They said the normal procedure is to replace the dial. I'm fine with a new dial being fitted as I'm sure the whole watch will go through their whole q.c. procedure again anyway.

When the ad put the watch under 30x magnification, they saw another small but deeper scratch too!

Really didn't expect this from PP.

The same QC procedure that let the scratches go through? I'd be very thorough inspecting the returned watch ... and demand either a new one or money back if not 100% brand spanking new and flawless. Bad enough that you are out of money and out of watch ATM.

I hope the situation gets resolved. I would advise before accepting after repair have the AD check over the dial with the 30x magnification.

Take it back. Every time you look, the scratch will appear bigger and bigger. Only you will notice. It will be invisible to everyone else. But to you it will end up appearing bigger than the Grand Canyon. You will loose sleep, then your appetite will go. Sex will not interest you. I implore you, take it back, before it is too late.

They should replace the watch or the dial for you. It appears to be human over sight. But this is kind of unacceptable for an expensive watch.

Take it back! That is unacceptable. Some may say live with it, but when companies like Rolex or PP want to take double digit figures for a watch, I expect it to be flawless

Unfortunately these things slip through now and then. PP employees are just like any of us. It's more about how it's dealt with that's important.

Well I dug out PP UK service center number and just spoke with them directly and it seems it's not their policy to replace watches. The reasoning they gave for this is the case/movement etc is perfectly fine and so they would only replace the faulty part.

Indeed, despite the price the watch is controlled by people like us, therefore unfortunate events like this one do happen. I would personally be fine with a dial replacement but I would strongly hope the new one is being seriously checked before being put in the case.

Patek suck big time if they cant replace a 25k watch, this shows what customer satisfaction means to them, the lesson learnt is that one should inspect each wach more closely before buying irrespective of the brand
