My advice is to take your time and research the watch for hours on this forum. Don't go in making quick decisions. I did that with my first Rolex and I regretted it.

Are there any drawbacks to buying an older used watch? I have seen several that are listed and look to be in mint condition (2000, 2002, 2003, 2009, etc.,.).
Thanks! John |

If I had small wrists I would go Airking.

Lots of good suggestions.
Probably ask yourself a couple of quick questions to get a better sense... +/- $5000.00 Sports/Dress General Use Personally, I like the suggestion to get a Sub- probably the most versatile and low-key piece- get the No Date if you don't need date and/or dislike the cyclops. The GMTIIC is feature heavy and a little busier in the looks category. The Explorer and Air King are rather simple and elegant in their design/intention... If you've got $5000+ I would say look at a Sub/SubC or ND, GMTIIC or a used YM w/plat dial and bezel- $5000- look at a Explorer, II and Air King... Just my opinion. |

Explorer I would be my suggestion. Some ADs still have some of the older 36mm models, although the 39mm might work just fine.

I purchased a Datejust 116234 for my first Rolex.
If you don't like it, I'd consider an Air King or Oyster Perpetual 36mm. |

I think 40mm of rolex sports model will be fine on your wrist ,
I have rolex gmt iic which is have "bigger" case than before and it looks good on me ,, ( my wrist is 6,5") But if you want a smaller size, lets try rolex datejust (36mm) , its pretty nice casual watch |

Gee, no love here for a Turn-O-Graph? I prefer the classic circa 2002-ish or older style ( not sure when these were discontinued). I would search "Thunderbird" and check it out. Of course as many have mentioned, you should try one on first.
The one model many first timers turn to is a Sub. Very iconic/classic, always desirable (liquid, so easy to resell if you change your mind). Go with trusted sellers here on the forum. |

I don't necessarily agree that the Rolex models are "very large", with a range from 36mm-42mm, they are some of the smaller watches on the market right now.
Which is a good thing. I think a 47mm+ watch just looks too chunky on 95% of the wrists out there. While it's "In", it's not my thing.... If you've got a wrist smaller than 6.5", I'd go with 40mm and under. I will say though, a lot has to do with the "flatness" of one's wrist. My wrist is a little under 7", but it's flat on top, which gives the impression that it is a little bit bigger. I think a 39mm Exp or a 40mm Sub/GMT would be great. Good luck!

Submariner - next to the datejust it is the most well known rolex. it is perfect in size and weight and feels great on the wrist. it will definitely not disappoint
