i've only ever gotten compliments for my watches, but i did have one colleague who was actually offended that i would wear a Rolex daily. he said that it should only ever be reserved as a weekend watch, or even a sunday mass only watch. i politely ignored him.

Quite the story here. I received my first Rolex when I was 18 and in the middle of my senior year. People would ask me how much was it, wanted to hold it, wanted to examine it, etc. and then there were the teachers/adults who asked, "so what do your parents do" and "where do you live" and "are you rich" and "what car do you drive". Very very annoying. Of course I did come from a bit of money. I wouldn't classify my parents as rich. My whole family went in together on it, so the cost was spread out. However, I understand what yor saying. Just stop caring and wear it well. And I did, I was given best dressed, president of my graduating class, and got best hair. So anyone who haggles you, just wants to have what you have and be who you are. Wear it proud my friend!

I an in my early fifties (just).
I own my home, a block of apartments, a few cars, motorbikes etc and have 70% of the cash I need for a new 216570. Wont be buying it until the cash is sitting there. luxuries are best enjoyed at length, and enjoyed more when earned. I do the maintenance at the apartments, and the tenants think I am just the old guy who mows the lawns, they dont know I own them. So they tell me about their lives, and what they can and cant afford. doesnt seem to stop them owning widescreen tvs, emptying large quantities of canned premix bourbon, and smoking constantly. They just spend their money on other things than I do. I run a car dealership, and drive a 15 yr old car to work when I dont ride my motorbike. BUt my car allowance pays for a new car for the wife every 2 yrs, runs my car, and the bikes, with change over. Employees of mine will fall over themselves to pay me so they can take a drive car home each night so the neighbours can see how well they are doing with their flash new car. If they took a car allowance, they could be driving the same car - and own it every four years. They own nothing. I like it that way, because they are hungry to earn. Truth is they earn about the same as I do, they treat it differently. They make different financial choices than I do. It doesnt make me a better person, or less of a person than them. The mistake is comparing. When old guys like me wax on about how tough we did it in the old days, it is because we are enjoying the fruits of our labour now. We reminisce about the saving, not the spending. |
