Icon5 Rolex Sky-Dweller: Your Thoughts

I'm a new member here, but I can already see that this new timepiece is the subject of much discussion, discussion often marked by mixed feelings. So, now I will ask: What do you think of this watch? Is it gaudy or unnecessarily strange, is it gorgeous, or is it somewhere in between? Do you own one? (Pics appreciated!)

Discuss.

Since you've looked at some of the other threads have you read them?

Not sure, that you will get any different thoughts than those which have been raised elsewhere.

However, personally at first I didn't find the watch very good looking.

Since then I have seen different versions some of which don't look too bad.

However for the same amount of money I would much rather get a Patek or ALS.

My initial intention was to post a poll asking members their opinions. Since I couldn't figure out how to do that (perhaps because I only had two posts before this one), I didn't, but I still think it's a topic which merits discussion.

When initially creating your new thread look at the options below the message block.

You should have the ability to create the poll there.

I tried the strap model yesterday. Thought the watch was too bulky for a strap watch and not too fond of the fluted bezel even though it is necessary for setting and adjustment.

It is a Rolex which can't decide what it wants to be

I love it - but then I own it. I own a number of Rolexes and other fine watches, and this is only watch I have gotten numerous and regular comments from people in the wild out of the blue.

But at the end of the day, it's your call. Lots of people, especially here, love the sub, but for me it does nothing. Yet the SD does it for me.

To me, it's a DJ with additional complications, and a silly price. For that money, I'd go with a Patek.

My thoughts exactly, I do not like the way it looks which is largely irrelevant as the watch is way out of my price range.

That's kind of funny because most people don't say that same thing about a Day Date.

The complication is interesting; but to look at, the watch is a double paper bag job.

I keep hearing this argument but can you get 30% off a Patek? I personally don't like the pateks as much as this watch especially anything you can get for 28k. Msrp 40k is just a starting point for negotians.

The only thing that bothers me about the watch is the price tag, other than that..I like it..

I have loved the watch since I saw it the press release about it at Basel last year.

I purchased the watch about 1 month ago now, and love it. I don't get an opportunity to wear it as often as I'd like to - but it is an amazing piece.

Very comfortable on the wrist, the size is perfect for the piece.

I love it but find the strap on the RG model to be too small for my wrist.

I find it, as I find most of the current rolex line and many high end watches today, to be too big and bulky. Its almost as if the idea is that if you are going to spend $25K on a watch you have to make sure nobody will miss it inside of 50 feet.

I think it's a beauty. I think I'd spend that kind of money on something else first (ie DDII, nautilus), but still a great piece.

The day date, in my opinion, is a more classic, elegant look. the off-center second dial on the SD just looks odd to me. that, combined with the price, makes it not something i'd want.

But, as I said above, It's out of my reach anyway, so this is all just yammering from me.

Didn't like it at first but it has grown on me. I prefer the RG as well as to me an annual calendar belongs on a strap and that chocolate dial is so nice!! Cheers,
