Vintage Rolex Date PX Purchase

A friend of mine from work recently showed me a Rolex that he purchased a number of years ago. It turns out that he bought this watch at the PX on Okinawa in 1968 while he was in the midst of his tour in Vietnam. The great part is that he still has the booklet, COSC Certificate, box, original sales receipt indicating purchase location.
The watch has never been serviced and seeming runs pretty well.
Here are the pics. Did not include any of the COSC Cert, booklets, or Receipt but it is complete.
Anyone want to guess the original sales price?

Will be interesting to see what he paid for it. AAFES used to have special program with Rolex where if you were stationed outside the Continental US you were elegible for specially discounted Rolex watches. I got my ref 16750 GMT-Master for $630.00 at a PX in Germany in 1982.

I got my Technics Dual Tape drive, Linear Turntable, Equalizer, 4 entire Speakers, and Receiver at the Patch Barracks PX in Germany in 1984. Wish I had got the GMT instead.

OK, so...according to the sales receipt $174. For a absolute collectors piece with military purchase proof that is a bargain.

I was close, but on the Price is Right, $1 over would have been a loss!

40+ years and it still keeps time without a service? That's impressive.

in the mid 1980s, the price for this watch in John Bulls, Nassau Bahamas, was $635 US.
Sold as model 15010 with same SS bezel and band. An automatic.

I bought a manual SS at that time there for $325.
