AD Pricing
Searched the forum and the answers I found were "maybe." I've researched the MSRP on the models I'm interested in and want to know if the AD can charge over these prices. Should I leave if they do? I'm hoping for a discount, not to discount back to MSRP. I will add that there are only two AD's in a 400 mile radius where I live.

No, they should NOT charge over MSRP and if they do yes, walk out. If anything they should have them at MSRP and you request a discount. Perhaps 15 is possible which will at least cover sales tax!
Alternately you could check with some of the trusted sellers here for the watches you are seeking to acquire and save even more!

OP...keep in mind the discount depends on many factors. Typically, SG and TT will yield more of a discount than SS. Some of the highest selling professional models may not have discount at all. Also depends on the AD and their desire to sell the watch you want on the day you're there. Thats why it's good to shop around, too. Expect a discount of somewhere between 3-5% under MSRP, and if you get more that's just gravy. Hopefully you can get 15%, but at least this way you won't be disappointed. Good luck!

Last month an AD wouldn't discount for me an old Explorer I that was so old the rehaut was not engraved and the original MSRP tag read $4400 and they wouldn't budge

ADs used to sell the ss daytona over list price, but not any more now that the MSRP is so high.

Not as new they wouldn't - if you were selling as pre-owned, then you can charge what you like, but if a dealership was found to be selling watches at over list, they would be on a fast track to losing their agency

I would guess it's similar to a car dealer. Hot models can command in excess of MSRP. Why not if they can find someone to pay those prices.

I'd be happy with a 3 to 5% discount, and if they are over MSRP I'm leaving whether the dealer could care less or not.
