The new Daytona PT vs DDII PT weight..

Which is gonna be heavier? .. Was at the boutique today and was told by the sales manager that the new PT Daytona will be the heaviest rolex for sale on the market.. This got me wondering, heavier than even the DDII?? That's very heavy indeed.. What are your thoughts? .. James

Perhaps they should start making watches out of lead then they would be very heavy if heavy really matters in a watch.

I don't know if lead is such a heavy metal Peter. After all, they did manage to make a Zeppelin out of it and it flew for a pretty long time.

To answer the first question, I don't know if the platinum Daytona will be as heavy as the DD-II, I have only tried the yellow gold one and it was pretty heavy to me but to be honest it wouldn't really matter to me, I don't feel the need to have a very, very heavy thing on my wrist.

I'd be curious to know though.

EDIT: I voted for the DD-II, I think it would be a funny bet to make!

For a moderator, your attitude towards members posts is quite shocking. Always negative.

The DDII weigh 278g apparently. How much would the daytona weigh, 10g extra or a lot more?

I really don't see any negativity in his post nor is it directed towards a member.

The OP was after some advice on which watch is heaviest. Replies like the above, are neither helpful nor thoughtful.

If the metal used is exactly the same then the DD2 should weigh more as its a bigger size and doesn't have a ceramic bezel. Plat Dayt would be around 10-20 grams less I would guess.

Pretty silly comment! Platinum, iridium and osmium are not the heaviest but the densest known metals, platinum being 11% denser than gold and about twice the weight of the same volume of lead. So a watch made of lead would have to be more than twice as big to be as heavy as a watch made of platinum.

I have also noticed this. Almost all of his posts seem to be negative these days but remember that Peter gets to see a LOT of posts like this every day and some of them obviously get annoying after a while. I would personally just refrain from commenting but either way, I'm sure he doesn't mean to appear so negative.

Aside from the feel, luster, and beauty of precious metals, the weight is a definite plus. Holding a precious metal rolex feels so much better in my hands than an SS. So its definitely a consideration in my book.

ps. there ARE superficial reasons to own a rolex, beyond the movement.

I agree with you. Given the new platinum Daytona is smaller in size, where exactly would the extra weight come from, especially given the ceramic bezel, which is going to be lighter than its (larger) platinum counterpart on the Day-Date II?

Anyway, forum member kilyung says his platinum Day-Date II weighs in at 293 grams. Some reports suggest it is perhaps a tad lighter than this, although I don't know what accounts for the variations. I haven't weighed mine, but it is very heavy indeed. I haven't handled the new platinum Daytona yet, but I have also read some reports on the various fora that is about 260 grams.

I would be shocked to say the least if the new PT Daytona is heavier than the PT DDII

It's perfectly acceptable to use the word 'nor' in these circumstances. It is in the English dictionary and means 'and not'. It may not be in the 'Paris, France' edition but it might be worth checking, it will be somewhere between 'capitulate' and 'surrender'.
