YM2 116680 (SS) vs 116688 (YG)
Well I've finally been confounded by a watch choice. In one corner is the new 116680 SS YM2 vs its sibling 116688 YG YM2. It seems like I vacillate daily between these fraternal twins. Oddly enough I'd normally shout "get both" but I can only see getting one or the other. Unlike a Sub or GMT, where I can see (and did) get the steel and gold versions of the same model, I see YM2s as too flashy in any metal for daily wear. So all the metals overlap purposes IMO. What do you think?
- Cost isn't a factor - 44mm size doesn't bother me - Both have white dials - Both have blue hands - Same blue ceramic bezel - Same movement and complication - Neither is a daily wear and would be a weekend watch - I already have SS and YG watches - They would not be replacing anything or filling a void in the collection - In my experience SS and gold wear similarly so wear isn't a factor for me - SS is less flashy but I do love gold watches - I like the weight of gold but this SS watch is pretty hefty - SS looks similar to my WG SubC whereas YG's blue/gold would be unique in the collection Pictures from sales forum posts |

the gold one is more beautiful.
To me this YM2 all gold is the best watch in rolex. however the ss is great too. I would rate the gold as 10/10 and the ss 8.5/10 |

Mike,
If cost isn't a factor, get the best that you can get. If you go with the WG you can have the best of both. The look of stainless with the feel of gold

The WG bezel is too much like my YMI bezel and has a tendency to get scratched easily so I'm excluding the WG. The TT would be a good compromise but I like gold and SS better.

I had the opportunity to try on the SS YMII Saturday. I'm not a fan of big watches, but I will say it's beautiful. It's also comfortable. The lugs taper nicely, and it sits flat on the wrist. I was pretty surprised that it didn't wear 'big.' I didn't see what all the fuss was about until I saw and wore it in person It's a stunning watch
You could always buy one, and if you don't like it flip it for the other

Mike, I'd say your last bullet comment would swing it for me if I was in your shoes. I think the SS would def be too similar to your smurf.
I too have been looking at this one, with the RGTT further clouding my decision. I think the SS version is kind of "cold" looking (no flames please, I think it's a fantastic piece) while the Gold really warms up the blue. Hope this helps and good luck! |

- SS looks similar to my WG SubC whereas YG's blue/gold would be unique in the collection
[QUOTE=watchwatcher;4384777]Mike, I'd say your last bullet comment would swing it for me if I was in your shoes. I think the SS would def be too similar to your smurf. x2 - for variety sake I would say go for gold. Out of all your points showing the similarities- basically making it a toss up, the last one showed a reason to go towards the YG. Since you pointed this out and though it may make more sense to go for gold, bc "it would be unique in the collection", and yet you still have the Q. it shows that it seems you may be leaning towards liking then SS more in your heart. |

Mike,
You've got quite the conundrum. I say go for the gold. If you think both are too flashy for daily wear, then why bother with a SS model. I find the whole point of SS is to "tone-down" the look for casual/daily wear. However, this isn't what you're trying to achieve, so go for the gold. It's gorgeous.

Mike I am going to put my 2 cents in here and say go for the YG watch. Based upon some of your pictures it seems like you truly enjoy the look and feel of YG (I know you have many other types of materials).
Looking at those 2 watches (they are both beautiful in their own right) I still would lean towards YG it just makes that special watch a bit more special imo. |
