Daytona as an only watch?
Are there any owners out there that have the Daytona as their only watch? If so, how does it stand up to the everyday use given it has a polished bezel? Thanks for indulging me.

I have one. It shows the scratches all the time but it is by far the most comfortable watch I have worn. I bought it to wear it everyday. It is like throwing on your hockey helmet to get out on the ice!

I don't know why people get so bothered by the bezel on the Daytona. Many watches have polished bezels especially Panerai's. Yes they scratch after time but can be replaced or polished easily. My advice is have a couple of watches. 1 with a polished bezel and one with ceramic and rotate them equally and each one will hold up twice as long.

Why not?
It is versatile. Dressy, sporty...never wrong. It's not a museum piece...and if you have just one watch to mark your days with, it's a fine choice. Does it serve your needs? If so, you have your answer. |

I wear the SS Daytona everyday, and while the bezel does scratch and show wear it isn't bad at all. Frequent cleaning as per the instruction manual and wiping it down with a cotton cloth whenever I have to dress up keeps it looking great.

My 6263 black face daytona from the eighties has been on my hand for over thirty years.
It looks new and it has no scratches except some smaller than hairline ones that can be buffed out easily which I never do since they are only visible with strong magnification and I like the watch original. It is one of the most impressive features in my opinion to be able to stay looking new besides its perfect time keeping and elegant appearance I never tire off. If it was not that dependable in both aesthetics and function it would not have the personal value it has to me, regardless of what the market suggest because of the collectors driving the values up. Like all items of quality they are made to be used,so yes I have one watch only I use daily and I enjoy it every time I have to see the time with the added pleasure that comes from having it so long which adds to the pleasure of using it daily. I thought I wanted to purchase another modern Daytona but when I see photos here with their huge shiny bezels with scratches visible to the eye and they belong to watch aficionados that probably never wear them daily I changed my mind about getting one |

I'm not a Daytona owner, but wouldn't think twice about using it as a daily.

Not a problem at all. In the 80s for a while a Daytona was my only watch.

I would not have a problem having only a Daytona to wear. With that being said, I would prefer a sub as an only watch. I am fortunate to have both.

It doesn't work for me. I got rid of my Daytona because I didn't wear it much. The two issues I had with it: 1. Bezel scratches stand out too much 2. No date.

I can't see any downside to having a Daytona as your "only" watch.

why not...the daytona is the one I wear for trips and swim out of my collection...(my only bracelet model)..
I have a friend who wears his as his daily for the last 8 yrs, sent it in, and goes right back on the wrist for more... its very versatile for dress and play...

It is my weekend beater watch. It is so sporty, yet elegant. I love it. Bezel doesn't really scratch that badly. The PCLs are what really scratch.

Always wanted one, finally got one, not really a fan, ready to bounce it out to finance a Patek Aquanaut.
It could be worn everyday, but it just never really impressed me much once I had it. Could just be the SS White dial. To each there own. |

The scratches on the PCL are frustrating, not easy to polish with a cape cod in my opinion,
the steel is such good quality I think it's hard to do, I should really spend some time with it and some blue painter's tape, .oh well the Daytona delima!!

The Daytona will certainly hold up to daily wear but wouldn't work for me personally. Gotta have a date and rotating bezel, 2 functions I use often.

I love mine and use regularly, it can easily be my one watch, I don't care if it is missing the date and as others said it is sporty and elegant and classic and a great one.

I don't see what the big issue of having no date is. Now a days everyone has a cellphone. When I check mine in the morning to verify it is charged and ready to go I take note of the date. Today is the 18th BTW. Many people have no date subs and PAMs etc and are happy.

The Daytona is a great daily watch and I see no reason why it can't be your only watch. Many have mentioned it doesn't have a date. That is true. However it is easy enough to take out the phone to not only check the date, but the whole month calendar.
