How to tell models apart.

Obviously Im new to the world of Rolex, but I was wondering if there is an easy way to differentiate the Rolex models. I just bought a SS Daytona, so I can obviously recognize that model. I can tell the Miguass is different, but i get stuck figuring out, yaughtmaster, GMT, etc. Are there any links anyone knows of or threads they can point out. I think the bug has bit me bad. I thought this would be the last watch I ever bought and after 5 days I want another one.... :)

you can tell the models apart just from the looks. the gmt has an extra hand for tracking time zones, and a rotatable bezel. the explorer is the same as gmt without the rotatable bezel. sub has large crown and black bezel, yachtmaster is a blinged out sub. datejust has smaller case size and looks dressy. you can see all the models on rolex.com

Welcome to TRF. Sounds like the bug bit you like the rest of us. I am recently new to the world of rolex a lot and you'll "pick up" the looks of the different models really quickly. A good idea is to visit the www.rolex.com website or some of the on line grey market sellers www.alanfurman.com or www.swissluxury.com. Enjoy your stay here. You will learn a lot - and it'll be expensive... :-)

I would say read the name on the dial.

Seriously, visit Rolex's web site and just look at the photos of each model and you'll pick it up soon enough.

Can't blame you for looking at the Pepsi. Before you go ahead and buy though - it might be a good idea to visit your local AD and try on a lot of different models. A lot of members can tell you about their first purchase (including myself) where you walk into the AD thinking you are going to buy x or y - and then you try them on and another model is the one that "smiles at you". Spend time - look at different models - try them on, and then buy the one that you think is the right one for you.

Howdy Andrew from across the river in the Old Dominion.

Can't go wrong with a nice shiny Pepsi GMT. It's a classic.

Welcome to TRF. Keep hold of your wallet or it'll be alot lighter after spending some time here.

Lars hit the nail on the head. I had in my mind exactly what I wanted and went to several different AD's. The watch that I finally got hit me right between the eyes and was totally different than one I had wanted for years. I wanted a Submariner and bought a two tone GMT-Master II with the new ceramic bezel. It looked classy as all hell and matched my wedding ring. Couldn't go wrong there.

Good luck with what ever you decide and welcome to the forum. A great bunch of Rolex/Watch fans here.
