For as long as I can remember, I always wanted my first luxury watch to be a TAG. More specifically, the TAG link. I started this watch obsession March of last year and pulled the trigger (with hardly any research) on my first "nice" watch: the TAG Link. I owned this watch for about a day and shipped it back because I couldn't connect with it.

1.

A couple weeks later, I decided that I still wanted a TAG and found a good deal on a Grand Carrera GMT. For about 4 months, the watch was off COSC spec and consistently ran about 15 seconds slow every day. I sent it to TAG under warranty and they sent it back running within COSC spec and fully polished/brushed. I decided that its a perfect time to flip it and try something else.

I started to gain interest in dive watches and picked my first Breitling. Got the Superocean 44 Abyss at a good price and all things were great.

3.

I decided I wanted a second watch in the rotation and picked up a Tungsten Carbide Lum-Tec as a beater. This thing would NEVER scratch even though I hit it on jagged rock in a cave, metal, wood, brick, etc.

Next came Panerai. At first, I thought they were strange looking and I didnt understand them. They eventually grew on me and I decided I had to have one. I didnt have the funds to just buy it outright so I had to sell the Superocean (I was getting sick of the comic book font and the rubber bezel anyway) and the Lum-Tec to fund this purchase. Even though it wasnt my first choice, I ran into a good deal on a PAM 112 so I picked it up.

5.

I still wanted a second watch in rotation and I missed having a diver, so I picked up an Oris Aquis date. I have to say I enjoy this watch and offers a lot of bang for your buck.

I kept the PAM 112 for about 8 months. During this time, I grew a lot of appreciation for Panerai and its still my favorite brand. The unique look of the Panerai and their wrist presence make it a very fun watch to have. Even though the PAM 112 is a beautiful watch, it wasnt the PAM for me. So last week I worked out a great deal with DavidSW and picked up my first Rolex!

7.

"Stunning" is really the best way I can describe the 114060. The fit and finish is top notch and the dial/bezel are just mesmerizing. I cant stop looking at it! After 7 watches, I think I finally got it right. I've been trying to figure out 3-4 watches that I want to keep for life and this is definitely one of them. I was reluctant to try Rolex because of the negative stigma that comes along with it, but this watch makes me not even care. Its just so damn beautiful! After I save up for the Panerai's I've always wanted (312 or 233), I will definitely be making my way back to Rolex.

I dont doubt that I will make another stop at Rolex in the future but I think I will make a quick pit stop at Panerai first :)

WOW great story and ended up with an amazing watch!! all the watches you had along the way are all terrific and I kinda started the way you did, TAG, OMEGA, etc but always looking at Rolex and feeling the way they look, are made, and their history really does it for me

The great thing about having tried all those watches and brands is the peace of mind you finally possess that the 114060 is the watch you truly want to keep. That is priceless.
