Great work on repairing that case. In theory I have no problems with it as long as it is cleary communicated. The problem is, as we all know, is that not all sellers are 100% honest.

So the next step is, inevitably, more old previously discarded cases are going to get fixed with this method, slammed together with various other spare parts, and eventually pawned off as mint, NOS, a true time-capsule etc.

IMHO if laser welding saves a vintage case from the scrap heap, great. to use to pull top $ from the unwary, not so cool. that said add 10 years to the watch and as many owners and who's to tell anything factual about the watch if the work was well done. Technology fills many gaps as time goes by and as we know fakers do this for a living.
Better dings and scratches on an honest watch that a NOS "unpolished" :-) version that is made for the unwary. 2 cents and done! have a great day all. M

even with laser welding material is removed through polishing, gouges and deep scars are filled but to get that NOS look the case has to be polished, this means going beneath the original surface of the case. What laser welding does is minimize the amount of material removed from a case to achieve a NOS look, it doesn't magically return the case to is original state.

Great job on that repair- right on..!! Another job well done is the restoration to the Clint Eastwood GMT Give-Away.https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=318753
. I have no qualms about that kind of work..!!

Great interesting thread. Makes one think about all the 50 year old watches that look 5 months old.

Seems like they can't seem to restore the crown guards like they do the lugs. Some of the repaired watched I see have fat perfect lugs but the crown guards are still over done.

I am so glad I decided not to polish my red when it was in service.

Can corrosion/pitting be fixed w this method? Seems like it could.

Edit: Just saw results in the other laser weld thread on rust/corrosion inside a case. Fantastic results!

Man, this really puts some of the Hong Kong pieces I've seen in perspective. Thanks for the education, all!
