Jumbo vs Nautilus?
So, here's my dilemma (first world problem). I have been eying the Jumbo 15202 and was pretty sure it would be added to my collection. But I've tried on a few Patek's lately, and need some experienced assistance. I know there are a few forum members with both these pieces, so...
Considering that my NEXT piece would be a Rose Gold AP or Patek... Should I currently: 1) go with a SS Jumbo now and a RG 5712 power reserve in 5+ years 2) opt for a 5711 SS blue dial now and an AP RO RG Dual Time in 5+ years Note: the 5+ years is how soon I can convince the wife... Note2: both would be my first for each brand |

I would get the 15202 now. It's a little less price wise and I think has a little more wrist presence.
Jumbo, Jumbo.... |

Hard to beat the 5711. Both are excellent watches. Which do you like better is the question.

Need to try on both. 15202 is great but I liked the flatter fit of the Nautilus and ordered a 5711. Can't go wrong either way.

they are both so fantastic, but i like the AP so much more.
for me i felt the AP was more suited to a larger wrist vs the 5711 seemed more suited to a bit smaller wrist, this is just based on the point where the lugs begin to turn, the AP lugs reach a bit further out. ps, to avoid confusion, they may each be referred to as the Jumbo, best to go by reference or name. ![]()

This is the ultimate dilemma IMO. They are both, well pretty close to perfection. You gotta try them both. I have, and if I where contemplating these two, my choice would be the 15202. Good problem to be facing by the way;)

For me, the bracelet on the RO gives it the edge.

I prefer the Jumbo, but the Nautilus fit me better, so that's what I went for.

Oh man, I'm going through this debate myself right now. I'm currently leaning Jumbo...but since buying my 5167 I've been thinking more about adding another Patek.

5711...both Genta designs...but the PP seems to be singing more esp if it's the blue dial...

Nautilus, as great as the Jumbo is, the PP is THE SS sport watch.

The 5711 is a great watch but rather pricey for a basic steel watch so I prefer my Nautilus to have a complication or two and gold is ofc lovely so the 5711R is my star choice. And combined with the Jumbo that is a most excellent pairing. But I would work hard on pleasing the missus so I could get the 5712R within a couple of years!

They are both pricey for basic steel watches Neil!
![]() As for which one to get? I got the 15202 first and then added the 5711 and together they make a fantastic SS Genta duo! As for which one if only one---such a tough call and ever so personal. You need to try them on to get a feel for them but the problem is you will not be able to try a 5711 on as they are close to impossible to find! It could come down to availability and the 5711 is a tough one to hunt down. Either way they are both amazing in their own right and no way to lose with either of them. ![]() PS. I would also recommend considering a 5980R if you are thinking of RG watch. It is my favorite Nautilus and on the wrist it is absolutely mesmerizing!

Wow, I didn't realize the voting would be so split on this one! Doesn't sound like I can make a bad decision here.
I wasn't aware of the different fits with wrist size. I have tried on the 15202 a few times, and although it wasn't sized down to fit my 6.5-6.75 wrist, I didn't have any issues. The 15400 also for me fine, but my tastes lean to the 39mm case. I'm still leaning (and harder now) toward getting the 15202 now and then in a few years (and a lot if wifey convincing) a Patek...probably the 5712R. The current buy is for my 40th birthday this year, so the "40th anniversary" tag on the AP adds a little nostalgia. yeah, that would be very sweet! I had that one on my wrist at Tiffany's in San Francisco. It's amazing, but a bit big on my wrist. Also $20K+ more than the 5712R! |

Get the 15202. It was the watch the revolutionized the stainless steel luxury sport segment back in the 70s. And after a while, add more complicated Nautilus. Good luck!

They are truly both amazing watches, however these few points made the choice simple for me:
AP 1972. (Patek 1976) AP using original JLC movement (patek once used the same movement but now uses 324) AP case finishing is the finest i have ever seen . AP case construction uses the 8 screws to access & service watch as originally designed (patek has since added a screw in caseback) both have added sapphire back to view movement. ultimately, trying them both on & seeing which fits best is essential to decide, but as Ken pointed out, trying on the 5711 is a very rare opportunity at an AD, in the past year and numerous trips to several patek ADs in nyc, no one has had the blue dial 5711 for me to try on. (Plenty of 5712s)

My vote goes to the 15202.
Love the Nautilus, but the stories about uncertainties and delays with Patek maintenance/service will keep me away from PP until something is done by management. |

I have the previous generation 15202 and the 5711. Both get equal wrist time but if I had to keep only one then it'll be the 5711. It is a little more comfortable on my wrist than the 15202.
Get the 5711 first if it is available. Good luck. |
