Question about setting a 1675 GMT Master
First, apologies for the presumably basic questions, but it's surprisingly difficult for me to find this info out via Google...
I have a 1675 GMT Master, without a quickset feature, or a hacking seconds hand (I think that's the right terminology for when the seconds hand keeps moving when you puull the crown out?). 1) When I unscrew the crown and pull it out to set the hands, the seconds hands continues ticking, as stated above. I've noticed that I can move the crown in an "anticlockwise" directions, e.g. rotate it so that the hands move backwards. This stops the seconds hand moving and sometimes seems to jump it back a little. Is this a bad thing to do? Will it mess up the timing or the movement or cause damage? Should one only ever wind the crown so the hands move in the right direction? 2) Any tips on accurately syncing a non-hacking seconds hand watch to another time source? Thanks! |

That's really hard. I have had a few & unless you can "slow" the second hand while you have the stem out, you're really not going to get it sync'd to the second. It's nice to hack to measure the accuracy, but in the real world, a non-hacking movement gets you close enough. If you really MUST be accurate, I'll trade my 16750 that hacks for a gilt-dial GMT or a red sub. |
