LiquidMetal: does it live up to hype?

I currently do not own an Omega, but saw that at least one of their models has a Liquidmetal case. If someone owns one, I would appreciate feedback on scratch resistance and weight compared to Titanium or other metals.

I visited the Liquidmetal website and naturally it placed LM above Ti, steel, etc. in all categories. And Apple has made several proprietary contracts with LM, suggesting the iPhone6 or another Apple device will have a LM case.

But I was hoping to hear from an owner about the LM properties. And if it is so great, why aren't other major watch makers using it?

I like the blue of the Liquid Metal Titanium.. If you can buy it under 5k it is a great watch but I like other watchs at MSRP.

LiquidMetal only refers to the numerals of the bezel. You may be thinking of the ceramic case on the DSOTM Speedmaster?

I am sure it is misrepresented. Liquidmetal really refers to the numerals that are "part of "sapphire bezel and made from LM.
Have never seen nor heard about case made of LM, also the liquidmetal website states: "Liquidmetal Alloy Featured in the Omega Seamaster Bezel: "

Thanks. But you have to wonder, if LM is so great, why aren't watch-makers using it for cases? It will be interesting to see how Apple uses it. I'm guessing for their iPhone case.

I think the technology is still very expensive and only used in limited fashion at this point. To create a whole watch out of liquidmetal would be interesting.

I dont think it is necessary to use something like LM when guys have still so much to explore with ceramics ;) (decades after Rado brought it to the market)
Anyway I prefer the bezel numerals on Omegas over the Rolex bezel ;)

I understand that it is pretty expensive and takes more time to produce.
hence the price difference between Omega's LM pieces and Ceramics
and Apple doesn't own, and didn't develop Liquid Metal -

"Liquidmetal technologies" is an independant - and has given Swatch group exclusive rights to use it in timepieces, and Has given Apple an exclusive licence to use it in its electronic pieces..

No. The bezel is ceramic and the numbers on the bezel are cavities filled with LM. Aside from the bezel numbers, there is no LM on the rest of the watch.

LM is currently offered on Titanium watches, and was once available on a limited edition steel Planet Ocean.

It'll be interesting to see what they start using it for in the future. I doubt they scored exclusive rights just to use it on bezel numerals.

I must say, the ceramic bezel with LM is cool as hell!

Holy mackeral, I assumed the case was LM. Glad I did not pay such a premium for bezel embelishments.

Just to correct the record, I never said Apple "owned" LM. I read the actual agreement between Apple and LM, and visited the LM website, and am a shareholder in Apple. Please take a look at my initial post. But I appreciate your details.
