Saw a deepsea challenge last night, at a bar...
Good morning All,
Went to dinner down the road last night. Pulled in behind a gorgeous Bentley GT, a guy and his girlfriend get out and we walk in behind them. Bar was packed, but there were three open seats at the bar. The guy and his girl sit down, my wife sits down next to them... As I'm ordering drinks between my wife and the guy I notice a monster on his wrist... Of course, I have to ask, "where were you able to pick that up?" He said that he's buddy from college days owed him some money and sent him it a few weeks/months ago, he goes on to talk about how big it is and going from that to the daytona was crazy etc... A table opened up behind them and they went to it, we didn't talk any more. My question is I didn't think it was available to the public? Maybe his buddy is now an AD or Rolex rep? I didn't grab his wrist and take too good of a look, but everything looked legit from a couple steps back... Any ideas?

Do you mean the new DSSD model with the black/blue dial or the actual DS Challenge which wasn't released for sale?

It probably was just a regular Deepsea... they never mass produced/released to the public the Challenge. Unless his friend is the CEO of Rolex...

Can't imagine that it was the Challenge. I believe there were only 2 or 3 produced..

Maybe, but who's to say that the owners of the 5 made are house-bound? It may be unlikely, but is it impossible that someone owns one and went out for a drink, wearing it?

His friend might have built the sub for James Cameron to have one. Like stated above there were only 5 made. 1 was definitely on the sub. Still would be cool if it really was the Deepsea challenge. But you couldn't miss it even if you tried. It's a 51 mm case and it's double the thickness of the DSSD

It was definitely a challenge or a "want to be" challenge. The thing was massive and the crystal was very tall.
I've seen plenty of DSSD's and subs etc...

I find it hard to imagine that someone who can afford a Bentley GT would waste their time with fake watches but it happens (I'm looking at you, Carmello Anthony...). Or maybe you spotted one of the 5 in existence. Sadly, the more probable answer is that it's a fake; especially when you consider the story on how he got it.

I know it's taboo, but I have seen a rep in person, a friend of mine keeps it on his desk
as a trinket, he also has a Daytona clock on his wall, just a novelty if seen in the wild.

I was on the train in Bangkok yesterday and saw a guy wearing the biggest fake rolex I've ever seen. It was a monster. I thought to myself, oh my god what a bad fake that they had got the size so wrong. I hadn't even thought about the deepsea challenge. I just google "fake deepsea challenge" to check and the exact watch the guy was wearing popped up. I've never seen such a big watch. I thought it was a replica regular deepsea and thought it was comical how they had got the size so wrong.
