The 5711 has the classic Genta design, it's less polarizing, and has a traditional layout as well both from the front and back. I'm pretty sure if the poll included all men's Nautilus variants currently manufactured (so 5726, 5980 and 5990 as well), the classic 5711 would still win the poll.

The thin case design of both the 5711 and 5712 are huge positives in my opinion. In fact, a thick case is usually what eliminates any watch I'm looking at from contention.

I accept that some may disagree and prefer thicker cases, but the way in which you make your argument is a bit childish

True, but the underlying mechanism might be different. The 5726 and 5890 have similar looking push pieces from a customer visible perspective, but the thicker cases might lead to more substantial gaskets or different design.

There's an older thread on r-l-x asking the same question. The answer from PP only compared 5712/5711, and the push pieces were the reason given (sorry it's in German):

Went for the 5712 and after 8 months don't regret 1 second, sure the 5711 is a beauty, but the 5712 is IMO much more interesting. About the thinness, when I first got it I needed a few days to get used to it, I was into much bigger/heavier pieces, but now I'm having trouble wearing big pieces, it's just too comfortable. About the WR, I know 60 meters is not a lot but is it possible to swim or not? Not talking about going a few meters deep, just normal swimming? Anyways for swimming I have my sub, but would like to know if ever one day I am at the beach with my Patek on the wrist...

Yes. It is possible to swim with a 5712. For 60m WR, you shouldn't be doing things like jumping off a diving board or any sports where you may hit water with force (e.g.. water skiing).

According to the response from PP that I linked to in my last post, they write:

Wir möchten Sie jedoch darauf hinweisen, dass Sie mit diesen Modellen schon schwimmen können, jedoch zum Tauchen nicht zu empfehlen sind.

which states that it's possible to swim with either model, however diving is not recommended.

Coupled with the silky smooth bracelet and comfortable thin yet sleek watch makes this a perfect SS choice for Patek fans. Iconic Genta design and look and also one built to last ages without ever going out of style.

Both gorgeous pieces. I've only ever seen the 5711 in person and it was a stunning piece. Having said that, I'm really attracted to the uniqueness of the 5712 dial....
