Smashed pearl on sub

Hi all,

An unfortunate incident occured recently where I knocked over my sub and it hit the floor (which is granite), and I was horrified to find that the pearl was chipped beyond recognition. I was still wearing it for a couple of days, but I subsequently noticed that the chipped remnants of the pearl were gone.

My question is, what do I need to do to get a replacement for the pearl? I bought the watch from Wempe London, and of course I possess the original box , warranty card etc. I currently am in Indonesia.

Thank you in advance!

Well depending on what insert if its the older type aluminium then just replace the insert for around £40 a DIY job.But if its the ceramic then its back to the RSC, but good news, now they can replace the pearl only instead of complete insert.

I bought it in January 2013, its a 116610LN. If I am not mistaken I think therefore my sub has a ceramic insert.

That's good news about replacing the pearl only, will certainly ask for that when i go to the nearest RSC I can find.

Thank you!

Sorry, forgot to ask - any idea on what the price of a pearl-only replacement would be?

Sorry that I have no idea but can assure much cheaper than a complete ceramic insert which would have cost around £250 plus gasket and labour to fit.

It might cost a few bucks but it's a easy fix.

Wow. Surprised the crystal didn't shatter. How far of a drop was it?

Or the bezel itself (well, cracked, not shattered)...

It wasn't that far - the sub was sitting at my desk (which is about 50cm high), and I knocked it over with my hand. I think the pearl was what made contact with the floor so it literally took all of the impact, I should count myself lucky!

lucky indeed. just to be on the safe side... keep an eye to see if movement is normal. not overly gaining or loosing time.

Wow, I really do owe you guys!

i just went to my local RSC (in Jakarta, Indonesia) during my lunch break. When I brought it in and showed the missing pearl and described the situation, the lady in the front desk told me that they do not do pearl replacements - they would have to replace the whole insert, and that it would cost me around USD 500.

My heart kind of sank at that moment, but armed with the knowledge I got here I explained to her that other Rolex owners I have spoke to told me that was no longer true, and that pearl-only replacements could be done.

So she went back to speak to her supervisor and speak to the Singapore RSC, and 10 minutes later, she came back and told me that yes actually, this RSC could do the pearl only replacement.

Best of all, since my 2 year warranty is still valid, I get the pearl replacement for FREE!

So again thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this thread!

Yes its quite recently Rolex developed a special tool so they could replace pearl instead of replacing the complete insert.

Good on your Indonesian RSC for replacing it free! They were certainly under no obligation to do so since it was not a warranty issue. It's always good to hear when a company goes above and beyond to satisfy their customer.

Hope it's fixed quickly!
