there was an original deep sea from the 50's?

The Deepsea Special sure did not need a cyclops!
The cyclops on its own was one big cyclops! BTW.: A rare TT version of the Deepsea Special was on auction in 2001: (See auction/source on title page of catalogue). From the catalogue:

I think Kamal from BJSOnline bought the Deep Sea Special that was auctioned in 2001.
Don Walsh and I are going to co-write an article on the evolution of the Deep Sea Special to the Sea-Dweller Deepsea. The story of how the watch actually made the deep dive is an interesting one, and it has not been fully told. Meanwhile, we just submitted an article on another expedition to DIVER magazine. It should be in the June or July issue.
