Did early 16570 ExpII ever have open 6/9 ?
As the title asks... Just wondering as I don't believe Ive seen one and It could really push my interest toward a T dial for my next purchase.
I don't really consider the 16570 "vintage," but I figured this question might not be contemporary enough for the main forum. Thanks friends, hope your day is going well... |

I doubt it. The open numbers finished around 1989 and the 16570 was released in 1991, I think.

Thanks for the reply Adam... Your confirming my thoughts.
A nicely aged polar with open 6's would be sweet. |

Chaps
I have open 6s and 9s on one of my watches and to be honest - so what, it is barely noticeable. I think this is one facet of Rolex collecting that is over hyped. Regards Mick |

That's Cool Mick, good to know they exist -- I assume your watch is a 16570.
I appreciate the open 6 and don't own any Rolex without them. 16750's are a dime a dozen these days which is convinent, but a good part of the fun in this hobby can be the hunt. I guess I fell like Im getting more bang for the buck if it takes me six months or so to track down the features im looking for... I suppose I could just change a date wheel or buy a 16550 at a crazy price... but whats the fun in that. |

Ah, I agree so much of this stuff is over-hyped (lined-up dial text, meters first, etc ...), but I actually LOVE open 6s and 9s. It's not just that the numbers are open, but they're usually much thicker fonts and bigger numbers. I find that it is noticeable. Like on my old 1680 Sub, that I stupidly sold.

If you find a 16750 with open 6 & 9 - then be cautious - because it would have been mod'd or replicated. Short answer is no, the original date wheels have all been the modern ones on the Expl. II If you do swap the date wheel on a 16750 for open 6 & 9 one, then we'd like to see that pic. I believe they aren't interchangeable as the movement had changed. But I will admit I couldn't say it's impossible with some handiwork. Maybe a Jocke project via Photoshop would be cheaper - ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's super and most here are envious. Suppose it looks a lot like this one from an excellent gallery at r-l-x.de
