I've tried both on rather recently, (last week in fact). To me the size difference is quite noticeable, especially the thickness of the case, which doesn't seem to get mentioned here much.
Overall the DD40 is better proportioned, at least to my eye. Nothing wrong with the Dd2, but I'm glad I held off. Aesthetics aside, the new movement alone would push me toward this piece. ![]() |

Haven't tried the DD40 yet, but I like it much better in pictures.
However, if I were looking for a Roman Numerals dial, I'd probably go DDII. I don't like the Roman layout on the 40.

DD 40 for me. I still think the DD II is an amazing reference, but if I had to choose, the DD 40 would be my choice.

Both great...but as Tom said, the movement would swing it for me if I was in the market for one.

Love the DD 40 just not crazy about the dials. The new RN's look bad to me so hopefully they go back to older style or change them up. The one exception is the new platinum which I do rather like.

Can't afford either but the DDII never got my juices flowing and the new 40 platinum with that 'wafer' pattern dial is just stunning.

I chose DDII.
I am warming up to the new DD40 but like others have stated, I also am not a huge fan of the deconstructed romans. Surprisingly, liked the baguette diamond dial that a member posted here a while back though. |

I prefer the DD2. I haven't seen a DD40 dial that I like.

I really love the new dials. I think it adds an element of interest that was missing from the DD previously. Like the tapestry dial of the AP or the lines on the 5711, I really like the added texture. I haven't seen them in person yet either, but I feel like the 40mm would fit me a lot better too.

This poll will be pretty one sided in favour of the 40mm I think.
As an owner I am probably somewhat biased and voted for the DDII. I prefer the dial options on the DDII and I don't mind the extra size. I have read lots about the 40mm being "more elegant" but as I wear mine as an everyday sports style watch I think the proportions and size of the DDII suit what I want from the watch. Hope that makes sense ![]() |

Interesting the debate of 40 v 41 compared to cars where you pick your size. While nobody would have trouble distinguishing a BMW 135i from a 750iL, try a 2 v 3 v 4 v 5. I'm a BMW fanatic and I sometimes doubletake distinguishing a 3 series from a 5 series... We WISs are parsing 1mm!

For me the curves are just different enough that I'm swayed to the DD40. Though the DD2 is still an amazing piece.

DayDate40 VS DayDate II
DD2 is just gaudy.
![]() Way too big and the proportions are cancerous and made for rappers. Just my opinion of course. Dd>>dd40>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>rapperDD IMHO |

I like the DD II for its "disproportion." To my eyes, it looks a little bolder and sportier, hence versatile. This is by no means a knock on the relatively understated elegance of the new DD.

This and the new dials! The new platinum is a home run IMO!

DD40 all the way, but I understand that the DD2 really works for some folks.

Wow. No offense but as a DD II owner and a DD 40 wanna be, I continue to be bemused by some of the strong opinions. I like them both. Its 1mm different. That's 2 1/2%. You are correct that the DD II is bolder then the DD 40 and perhaps less aesthetically correct if the 36mm is the reference. But its pretty understated (especially WG and Pt).

Not a fan of the thick fluted bezel of the DDII.

Tried on the DD 40 and loved it. Perfect size! Now if they came out with some really "wow" dials!

DD40, based solely on pictures.
I can't wait to see one in real life.
