GMT II Coke help!

Hi all,

First post. I've been saving up for my first real watch. Been wanting an IWC for a while. Recently, my father was in the market for a new Rolex. I started to help him research as much as I can. Thanks to all the great info I received here, I ended up recommending the 116710BLNR. He loves it.

In the process of research, I realized that I no longer want an IWC. I fell in love with the 16710 Coke. It's one of the most versatile watches out there. It's great because I travel quite a bit. I want a later series preferably the M but a Z will do.

I found a few but the prices range from mid to high six thousands. That is more than an 116710LN. Why is the price so high? Is there a big difference with the Z series and ones before that? Also, how much can I negotiate on a pre-owned watch that is in good condition? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

It's a free market. The laws of supply and demand set the price. If you see a nice 16710 you want, make an offer. If you don't get the watch there will always been another out there. But the seller probably knows what he/she can get for the watch, so if you really want it, you need to pay for it. You can usually get watches without box/papers for less.

Some charge and some will pay crazy prices for a 16710 with a slightly modded movement the cal 3186.The internet is a wonderful place to generate hype like the famous stick dial or mistake dial 16710 GMTs. Many fall for this hype and often gets there fingers burned by paying crazy prices. The 16710 is a very versatile watch and inserts are quite cheap to buy even from Rolex around $75 .Plus they are a DIY yourself change and Rolex have never made a series of any watch they are just case serials.

Not sure why. The 16710 was made from ~89 until 2005 and they are all pretty much the same.

Why pay inflated prices for a Z when an earlier release would be almost indistinguishable.

Im currently looking between the 16710 and the 116710 and its hard. Not sure if i want to go with something more unusual or something more functional. They both are great watches but i do love the reliability aspect of the newer watch at the same time love the color scheme and rarity of the older watch.

Find the best example you can for around $5000, and send it off to RSC. It will come back better than an unserviced Z for less money.

I absolutely love mine!! Quite possibly my favorite in the Rolex line. Incredibly versatile and the GMT is an awesome complication to have if you travel at all.

the price of a nice 16710 coke Z series with box and papers has reached £4.5k and up in the UK from recognised dealers with service and warranty. but the £9,000 price I have seen for a Z series stick dial with a 3186 amazed me - twice the price???

Half the fun is the chase... The "LN" 3186 has eluded me for awhile. It's the hardest of the 3 bezel combos to find for some reason. I actually found a guy with one, but it's not for sale..yet.

I bought my 16710 Z serial pepsi + stick dial with box and papers for a bit less than 6K $ last September ...
I believe you can negotiate for a better price than that you mentioned ( happy hunting )
