Why did you flip your dsotm?
Okay folks let's hear it.
If you had an omega dsotm and flipped it...why so? I've been eying one for some time now. Tried it on a few times and the fit seems excellent and very comfy. Reason I did not pull the trigger is because I always had the AP ceramic diver in the back of my mind. Well I bought the diver and flipped it in a month. It was comfortable but my issue was with the not so subtle contrast of the SS screws against the black bezel, as opposed to the beautifully subtle WG screws against the SS bezel on the RO/diver etc. I find the dial to be near perfectly laid out and the date is in an ideal location as well. Only thing going against it is Wr at 50m which technically should suffice should I want to wade into a pool or the ocean. Also the release of several new variations takes away from the "special" feeling but I can get over that. It's an omega after all not a roger smith. Preach. |

Hey Tom..
Funny you should mention this as I am debating unloading mine this week. I've owned the DSOTM from release, I think I got one of the first watches to hit London. Reasons that I'm looking to unload it: I simply don't wear it! An all black watch in ceramic is super cool but I realized I just don't find myself wearing it much (especially during the warmer months). When I reach in the box for a Speedy I almost always go for the original moonwatch (my first watch and an all-time favorite). I also find it a little too large and thick for me. (Please Omega, lose the large crystal case back). This is probably the only objective criticism I have. Purist view (i.e. - snob view): I can't pretend that I'm not a purist regarding Speedmasters. A Speedy really needs three registers for me. The 9300 models, as opposed to the 57 models, retain the original size of the sub-dials and just drop the bottom one. It looks a little off to me, with too small sub-dials and too much open space on the dial. And while the DSOTM was super-unique when it was released, I feel Omega cheapened it a bit releasing all these different variants of it. That being said, it's a beautifully made watch with great polishing and a super-accurate movement. The ceramic looks as new, no dents, scratches, or discolorations. It's a very reflective watch. The OEM strap is excellent, and the watch has great wrist presence. I guess for me an all-black watch is less appealing than I imagined (I did sell my Pam 292 a while back too). So if you dig ceramic and the size works for you then it would be a great fit. |

The all black stigma does speak to me though. A recent regret of mine was selecting the black wheels from the factory on my m3. Looked great in pictures, but feels tired in real life. I'm tempted to go speedy pro but I don't love the bracelet whereas I really dig the strap on the dark side. Throw in a love for pink Floyd and it's hard to resist even knowing I may end up flipping |

I have a DSOTM which I purchased on holiday on an impulse buy.
Lovely watch - but for my puny wrists it's too large and hence going to unload. Worn it only a few times so feel a bit sad but maybe Speedmasters aren't for me :( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Try a mechanical moon watch. Wears much smaller and thinner.

I think it's a very cool watch but would be hesitant to buy a watch with a ceramic case, I know they are tough but it takes one unlucky moment and it's shattered on the floor.

I am also a monwatch owner, though I have been tempted by the DSOTM. I have a 7 inch wrist, and the DSOTM wears just too large and thick for my liking. However, a 40-42mm case would be tempting. As far as the monwatch bracelet, I am not a big fan, but really enjoy it on leather straps, the omega rally strap, and the more vintage looking 1171 bracelet. I also wear it on Milanese mesh at times

I had one as well, while I love the look but I didn't like the lightness of the watch.
I sold it about two months after I bought it. |

Own it for about a year before flipping it. Was happy with the looks and the ceramic case and it's a great daily wearer. Then I got the AP Ceramic Diver and suddenly the DSOTM doesn't seems so nice anymore. Eventually sold it as I have not been wearing it.

I've told this story before but I nearly dropped a Pt dato up/down at the NYC boutique a few years back. I was seated and was un strapping the tang from my wrist to remove the watch and inspect the movement one more time. As soon as I unbuckled it the weight caused it to slip from my grasp and towards the tile floor it went, as the modern furniture had caused me to not have my wrist over the tray. I blindly slapped my left hand in a last ditch effort and managed to catch it against my knee! Dato needs a deployant IMHO Quote:

Thanks for the input Ben. I assumed you had let yours go but I do recall you being a proponent of the dsotm back when it was in your collection. Ceramic diver is a sweet piece and I could understand them being too similar. |

I wish I can own DSOTM again. Especially vintage DSOTM. 3 times attempted to purchase but this one turned me back so badly.
1st : got a scratches on the side case (brand new) --> returned 2nd : chronograph counter hand not fully aligned at 12 o'clock --> returned 3rd : got a great discount from Omega all models in Tourneau AD because they're losing the brand, fully deposited. But their manager canceled my deposit and refused to sell it. Why? - Stupid response " Discounted apply for all Omega models but excepted this and only DSOTM". So...... |

Never read that story of you and your Dato moment, I guess your heart would have missed a few beats at that moment |

Tom. Did you try that on locally? I've checked a cpl times at Reeds and they didn't have one. I like it a lot (REALLY miss the all black piece after upgrading my 44mm FC to the PT), but the thickness is what's making me hesitant. My BP FF was 17mm thick and seemed to sit VERY high on my wrist. Like, oddly high. The Pam 292 and esp the 384 are on my mind too.
Btw, I know what you mean about the black wheels... My Jag had the black out package, and while it looked great, 1 run in with the curb ruined em, lol. They also never had that gloss like when they were new. |

I found although the case is thick it sits exceptionally well on the wrist. Looks perfect on my 7.5" wrist. Similar to the diver ceramic in terms of size Id say. It is however supremely light, which some love and others don't. I love that quality. Really concerns me that people have scratched the case on these though. never had that issue with my diver C. Don't get me started on the black wheels! Fortunately I have my grey bbs winter set up on now but I will regret having to take them off come summer |

Sold mine where they released a million versions. Kinda took the shine out of it for me and cheapened it. Final nail in the coffin for me was when two people in the same industry I work in and know by coincidence bought one, never had that happen with any watch including Rolex! Suddenly did not feel unique 😊
