Help Please: Vintage 1675
Dear all,
I wondered if you could offer any opinion/advice on a 1971 GMT 1675 I am considering purchasing? My knowledge is developing on vintage models every day thanks to TRF but I still would appreciate anyone who can tell me anything as I'm becoming to realise it can be a bit of a minefield. Many thanks in advance for you assistance. Paul |

Hello Paul. This looks like a nice, honest example. Dial is mark 2, as expected for a 1971 piece. Case looks strong with good shape to lugs, lug holes, and crown guards. Patina on dial and hands is uniform and consistent. The 7836 bracelet and 358 endlinks are correct and consistent, with all links present. Bezel font appears correct and consistent with 1971 period, and overall wear and fading to bezel looks consistent with the watch as a whole. Additional questions I'd ask:
-photos of inside caseback -photos of movement -photos of reference and serial numbers in between 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock lugs -photo of bracelet clasp, particularly the date code This is for due diligence; from what I see, I'm not noticing any red flags. Comments from all are welcome. |

Welcome to the Forum.
A very fine example. Hopefully you are seeing this watch available in Germany. |

Beautiful-looking 1675. One potential issue is the discoloration on some of the tritium on the hour markers, and I don't mean patina. There are some slightly darker areas that could be an indication of moisture. Note the spots on the date wheel too, that might be a further indication. Hard to know for sure. It might be fine. So the suggestion above is a great one: Get movement and caseback photos to check for corrosion or other issues inside. Again, on the surface, looks to be a very nice GMT with a strong case, mostly matching patina and a great, slightly beat-up (in a good way) bezel insert. Love the folded bracelet too. What's the asking price?

Agree with above, good looking vintage 1675 with period correct components. Definitely have a look under the case back.

great chase, dial, bezel and oyster bracelet (end link and ref 7836 but the clasp is uncorrect, is for a jubilee bracelet)...

Nice example, but if you're planning on using it as a daily wearer you might be changing the bracelet for something more practical anyway, like a 93150...that folded-link bracelet on it now is a bit flimsy and jangly IMO. If you're going for all-original you'll have to deal with that clasp. Best of luck

The clasp should read 7836 not 6251H which is a Jubilee clasp.
I would recommend a 78360 bracelet as a replacement bracelet, which is much more correct than the Submainer 93150 flip lock bracelet.

Looks good to me. Bracelet may not be all correct (clasp), but is fine to use and wear, and there's nothing wrong with the old folded links either. They are tough and light, and it matches the era and style of the watch, rather than a modern solid one (78360).

thanks again for all your replies
I have managed to source a 7836 clasp as suggested as I want the watch to be as authentic as possible. |

Congrats. Sourcing a correct clasp would have been my first choice also.
