Such a cool watch. I would imagine the hammer price will exceed the estimate.

No discount for the re-lumed hands?

I don't think anyone will be under any illusion about them.

Gardiner Houlgate - in which I have no financial interest - is an independent auction house of long pedigree. It may have a greater name in musical instruments, but they do also have a long history with the jewellery trade in the UK.

While their pieces are not all of this level, it is from them that I sourced one of my 5517s, shown on the right here :

As an independent, just like Fellows in Birmingham, they are often more flexible with seller's fees, which can be very substantial at some of the larger auction houses, not always or even often for any greater sale result.

I've know the GH principals for some time, they are what I consider a straight company and I happen to know that they have gone to great lengths to determine if this is a watch that they are comfortable selling.

Would Watches of Knightsbridge be more suitable?

Sometimes the name does not tell you all that you might wish to know.

Great info Haywood that would put a big dent in the 401k but what a nice example of vintage Rolex.

As it turns out, previous offers made privately now look very attractive!

The dial had certainly seen better days, but there aren't ever going to be too many for buyers to choose from!

Yup, and with a new crystal, a correct insert and a matching handset it would be a killer watch IMHO.
