Ive been getting some odd blackness on my wrist whilst wearing my Rolex. This has me worried. Hoping someone could inform me on the subject.

Maybe you've got some dust/dirt collecting between the links....give the watch a good wash with hand soap, warm water, and a sift-bristle toothbrush.

Yes sounds like the watch is just grimey. Wash in warm water and liquid soap with a soft toothbrush.

the only time I got 'black wrist' from an oyster bracelet was when I removed the crankcase plug during a motor oil change & the goop dribbled onto my wrist.

the solution was simple...just remove the watch prior to such endeavors.

Hello everyone. I am new here on this forum but have been reading them for a while now. I too get some black on my wrists from my omega speedmaster's bracelet and a knockoff replacement rolex oyster bracelet I had once. The knockoff rolex replacement bracelet really reacted with my skin badly. I have never experienced this with my two rolex's authentic bracelets. Both oyster bracelets. I have very reactive skin. Plastic eyewear seems to corrode where the frames touch my skin. I believe that Rolex's proprietary recipe for their stainless alloy is very "clean" and therefore does not react with my skin like stainless from other manufacturers. OP, you too may have very reactive skin.

There are some people who are allergic to nickel and react to the nickel content in such silver jewelry or it could be something as simple as oil from your skin combining with dirt that gets trapped under the watch. If your skin is not getting red or irritated that is very likely to be the cause.

Mine is the opposite, my wrist is turning white in a shape of oyster case and oyster bracelet, it's because I couldn't stop wearing my Rolex

I have a half dozen high end watches and a few low end beaters. All are extremely clean and never get actual dirt on them because I will take the watch off if I am going to get dirty in the yard or work in the shop. Some models do infact leave my wrist blackish under the bracelet and its usually on a hot day when my wrist sweats.

This is from a reaction from my skin to the chrome metal content in said Stainless bracelet. Some bracelets are better than others where they never leave any black. Some are very bad and do all the time. So far my Rolex hasnt left any black marks.

I would assume your skin doesnt like the 904L Stainless that Rolex uses. Only way to stop this completely is use a titanium bracelet (hypoallergenic) Or a leather or rubber band. Odds are any cleaning of said bracelet that is now turning your wrist black wont fix your problem.

As said by others above, you need to clean up the watch every now and then, will happen with any watch brand! I clean mine with hand soap, you can use a sift toothbrush for the bracelet

Ive had same thing happen on my sub, bought new in 2015. It has since stopped. Its the lubricant between the links that the AD put on when I got my sub sized. It went away after about 1 month total time from start to finish of seeing black marks on my wrist.. Yes I washed the watch with soap and water once a week regardless of lubricant getting on my skin. Depending on how much excess lubricant used on the link or links will determine how long the lubricant will show up on your wrist. Wasn't a big deal to me because I could only see it when I take off watch. Hope this helps.

I doubt it's any sort of allergy. The most common causes of "black" residue are as follows:

1.) Abrasion. This happens when sand/dirt/grime gets between the bracelet and your wrist. It can slowly wear away the material, which will appear as black dust/dirt. So, be sure to give your watch (and yourself) regular cleanings.

2.) Corrosion. This can come from several different sources. Salt air, acids from your sweat, chlorine in your pool, etc. Those elements will react with the alloys in the bracelet metal (typically nickel and copper). That said, the stainless alloys that Rolex uses are very corrosion resistant, and their (18k) gold alloys are virtually corrosion proof. With gold, you usually only see corrosion with the lower karat weights (10k/14k). So, if you have a bracelet that is supposed to be 18k or SS/18k, and you are getting corrosion, I would be highly suspicious of the bracelet's authenticity. YMMV.
