Jean-Claude Biver can justify anything
Just watched this video of Jean-Claude Biver try to justify the design of the black on black Hublot. He paints such a beautiful picture and sets the tone and makes up an amazing reality to sell a product.
I've heard him trying to Justify the Hublot Big Bang and trying to say it is as original as a Nautilus and a Royal Oak... And now this .He could sell sell sand in the Sahara I'd say! Great respect for his old work with AP,Omega, but as good a story teller as he is, I am not sold at all on his newer design and marketing ideas. There comes a time when you can't push the envelope that far and expect to get away with it. Video here https://youtu.be/55ve5tFI_HU

Or maybe it's us who don't understand anything and Hublow is really high horology instead of just some marketing crap, who knows

Not a Hublot fan myself but I do admire Mr Biver, his accomplishments in the watch industry are incredible.

gotta love the haters....
i'm a Hublot fan, went to the 10 years Big Bang dinner last year in London.... don't see many other brands hosting things like that for their clients? Gave me an additional 2 years warranty on both my watches as well... No complaints here |

One thing I find funny on the forum. Whatever happened to "nice but not my taste" and people move on.
Instead some bash and bash hard... And not realizing that some like it and may have spent huge $ on something THEY like.. Yes, freedom of speech bla bla bla But a bit more tact would be nice sometimes and even though Hublot is not for me, I still admire them and have friends that swear by them. Here on the forum I find Hublot get trashed no matter what. Unfortunate |

Interesting video, form over function.
For a tool oriented, function over form guy, I guess I'm too Neanderthal to appreciate heavy artistic perspective. |

I hugely respect Mr.Biver, but still not a fan of Hublots... If they made a 41 or 42mm, in-house chrono with a less showy dial, metal or ceramic bezel, and steel or magic gold case, then perhaps. No carbon dial, and no asymmetric subdials please :) The Classic Fusion Chrono is almost there, but I'd prefer a more subtle Big Bang variant, using the classic Big Bang case.

Now they are using their own movements and not charging extortionate amounts for ETAs I don't really mind them, and I've always liked Biver, a real and passionate character in an otherwise grey world.

I like some Hublot models but IMO the black on black ones require too much effort to actually tell what time it is.

I do get his point about the art. But I do find it somewhat worrying that he doesnt care about accuracy and all that. For me Watches are for sure a form of art you can wear but it is also, fundamentally a "tool" to tell the time too. I mean i kno wmost people arnt wearing one to tell the time, but it helps that its accurate. And its far more impressive when its accurate AND beautifuk.

Sounds like Hublot have discovered how to turn down the contrast and darken images that go through their photocopier...

I think next time I visit my rolex AD I'll try one on lol I love to hate hublot and I want to be able to further justify it. Sort of like, you can't talk crap about politics unless you vote!

I have a great deal of respect for his success and understanding about the industry and marketing, but how something can talk so haughtily for 5 min about producing a black-on-black watch is beyond me.
I have nothing nice to say about Hublot so I'll end it there. |
