Jason, some remain in my hands, such as the 5513, 16700, 16170, 177234, and some with friends and other family members. It a pitty I could not keep them all, but also I did some sales that I shouldn't. But still, if I call "get them all together", I can gather 12-15 pcs within a couple of days for some photos or weekly enjoyment. Thank You for all,

I have a 5 digit Sub and a 6 digit Datejust. I wouldn't swap either one for the other generation. 6 digit sport watches are too chunky whereas 5 digit dress watches are too slim to me.

Chaps
My oldest watch is a 1981 Explorer2 Freccione 1655 and when I last tested it, it gained 3 seconds over 28 days, so why do I need to upgrade on that. I prefer the older watches because they are hell of a lot more under the radar than the ceramic models and I like walking around in short sleeved shirts without worrying about "is it safe" etc. So no urges to upgrade from me. I have a mix, as there are features of the 5 digit models I prefer in some respects, compared with the 6 digit models, and vice versa. In my mind, it's like trying to decide whether I prefer the Stones over the Beatles...for me, there's no need to decide, as there is room for both!

We're all different, but for me, it's about how I perceive Rolex's changed 'soul':

Agreed. Even though it hasn't been all THAT long since the 5 digit watches were on the market, they were the final holdover of watches meant to be tools, rather than a fancy jewelry thing. That's certainly not to say that the current models can't handle as much or more abuse than the older models, but everything has become more flashy.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but these three pictures tell the whole story! Very well done! Just curious, do you work in advertising because if you don't maybe you should! Russell.

Same here. The 6's look too bulky to me, in fact, when I wear my 1016 or 1601 for a week and then put my 16610 back on it feels gigantic, couldn't imagine anything bigger. |
