Buying my first Rolex tomorrow... Last minute help/advice needed!!

Well, no sense adding my $0.02 since he should have the watch by now.

But just for the ducks of it, I'd have no problem paying cash in an insider's situation, particularly if it's a brand new watch from an actual AD. There are a couple of reasons the seller may want to keep it off the books...big discount, avoiding tax, etc., none of which really concerns me. It appears to be an accommodation sale to their kid's co-worker.

Heck, we wire cash in advance to people we've never met on references from people we've never met around here all the time without even seeing the watch, lol! If I'm going to the store and the guy is a legit AD with a brick and mortar location I wouldn't be too worried if I'm getting the watch with a valid card in my name right then and there.

It's easy enough to check the status of the dealer on the Rolex website.

If you are paying the agreed price then a card should be fine. If not, why not?
You will earn lots of points on the card too. Go with Amex as recommended above.

The really important point is to get the watch you want from a dealer you trust. Discounts come after that, for me anyway. Perhaps because I keep my watches a long time and it's a quality watch with quality service that I am after.
Not just the lowest price from guys I don't know and whose service may be debatable. I know this is a very 'old fashioned' view. But it's served me well over the years. I'll put price first on a can of beans, not on a valuable precision instrument.
Of course you want savings too, but the dealer has to live, and something has to give when prices are heavily cut. You can't square a circle.

Your shopping for a Rolex ! It should be fun and exciting . If your not then there's something wrong. Buying a Rolex is pretty much like buying anything from a store.

And especially now a days where it is harder to give discounts the customer services at ad are even up a notch! Your buying for the customer service if your picking that store and not the next ad.

I paid cash but my AD essentially gave it back by giving me a more than generous discount. Maybe its a similar situation.

Haven't heard from OP for a while here. Are you buying a new Rolex and are you sure it's a Rolex authorized dealer (AD) or is it just a jewelry store with a Rolex to sell? This information would influence my answer quite a bit, especially for a first time buyer.

Hey guys, sorry I forgot to update you all my emails were not syncing with my phone. Thanks everyone that offered advice. Basically it just turned out that I was overthinking everything and worrying. On the day I just said to my friend I'm not comfortable paying cash and he completely changed his tune and said I can pay by card if I wanted, so that's what I did. So now I'm a happy owner of a new 114060 :)
