Scotch brite really works!
Lately, I have not been wearing my 16710. After wearing it for more than a year non stop, I started feeling like it was too fragile for my life style. I became depressed and sick when I saw that the 12 o clock side was all scratched up and splotchy. Then about a month ago, I noticed a tiny chip on the crystal. To the naked eye, it is invisible. But when i run my nail across the edge, I can feel it. It bugged the hell out of me. I stopped wearing it and put it in my safe. Until one day,....
I was just browsing the reference page and saw the post by Mr. Tools. I never thought of using a 50 cent dish cleaning sponge on my 5k watch. I figured I would try it out on the link that is normally covered by the clasp first, so I dont mess it up. To my surprise, It worked. The scratches became virtually imperceptible. I then started to work on the rest of the bracelet and the same result. I am amazed and truly happy. The GMT hasnt left my wrist since, and I am so sad to have doubted it for a sec. Well, I'm not going to make a habit of it,(I know im removing metals each time), but it feels so good to have a watch the i can just buff before an important night or meeting. I just have to get over the chip on the crystal. Is it bad that i keep running my finger nail in it? Will it make the chip bigger? or should I shut up and stop worrying so much because rollies are made to take beating. |

Glad the quick polishing made you happy about the watch again. IMO, your GMT is able to take a lot and I wouldn't worry about the odd chip or scratch. You have the DD for dress-up, so wear the GMT for every day use. Use the scotch brite when you can't stand the marks, and have it serviced when the chips become significant or you hit that 5-10 year period where you start thinking "I should get this serviced," all the time.

It looks good from here...
I think you're obsessing over that little chip...I enlarged your pics and can't see any damage. I have an EXP II that gets the nod for all aggressive activities and it too has some chips around the edge. You have to take your fingernail to find them...or a 20x loupe..

You could get a new crystal if you would stop worrying about it. Might be money well spent to calm your mind.
