Icon20 Rolex Cellini

My coworker has an old Rolex Cellini he bought in the 80's. He doesn't have any info about it other than it was appraised for $9K USD back then. He's going to go back to Mayors for an appraisal again, but I am curious on what you all think. I have never seen anything like this before. Do any of you have any info about this product line? Any ideas of how much it might be worth? It is 18K gold in GREAT condition. I took these pics for you guys. I also took one of his watch next to my Sub for a size comparison. On the back of the case the numbers 4354203 and 4332. I assume the first # is the serial number and the second # is the movement. Any other info/tidbits would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know much about Cellini except that the value drops off quite a bit over a short time..

Not a huge secondary market..

Here is one like it in white face......http://www.watchesareus.net/rolexgold3.htm

Appraisals from jewelers are not usually what you can sell one for, but what it might take to replace it in the event of loss.....That is normally a much higher value for insurance purposes.

So, most likely the initial appraisal would be higher than the one to come? :-/

I believe apprasals are done on replacement value not actual value, so I guess the apprasal should be more than the 9K original.

Are'nt apprasals only done on a comparitive current production model

In that case.. what would be the closet current model? an all gold model or a Cellini - or do they still make all gold Cellini's

I have a nice 1967 vintaqe solid gold Cellini; however, they clearly are the least favored segment of Rolex. Mine's around $2,000 if I were lucky and it's in good shape - similar to yours.

It's a nice dressy piece, probably do best in a fancy auction somewhere.

Yes that's what I think they do.
Probably go to 18K Datejust as I don't think any cellinis have integrall gold bracelets anymore.
I've got a current catalogue somewhere

So the guy's apprasal would still be on the right-side
